I have to wait at least a year and a half until my fiance gets his job to maybe marry him then. But if I want to get married in Disney World I have to wait another year and a half. And I figure if I have to wait just a year and a half to even be able to marry him period, I might as well wait another year and a half to get married somewhere nice and have my family there. But just thinking about it scares me and bothers me, because 3 years is a long time from now by the time we get married we would have been together for like more than 9 and 1/2 years. That's almost 10 years. Nobody who's normal does that right? I'm just sick of waiting to get married. What do you think?

I think if you love each other - the place you get married simply does not count. If he is insisting on it, then (sorry to say) I question just how serious he is.....

I'm the one who wants to get married in Disney World. He's not insisting on anything.

Hi Angelwngs, I'd say that it doesn't really matter what's "normal", try to forget what other people might think, it's your wedding/your up-coming marriage........so it's about what's right for you and your fiance/what you both want.
So if you want to wait three/four/five years for a specific wedding that's fine, or if you both want to get married next month somewhere "nice" but "lower key", that's fine too!!!
And you know if it's "lower key", then it can still be amazing, because the main thing is about how much the wedding itself means to both of you.........the love you have for each other and the commitment you're making to each other. And you could always renew your vows somewhere like DisneyWorld somewhere down the line, if you wanted to!!!
But yes, just whatever you want.........and don't worry about "the norm" or "average"'s..........you can set your sights higher than that wherever/however/whenever you choose to get married, right?? It's going to be extra special given your relationship, regardless, yes??!!

I lived with she who is Mrs Constant Sorrow for ten years before getting married (it is well not to be too hasty about these things). Therefore 9.5 years does not seem unreasonable to me.
Thanks for this!

I don't think it's weird at all. I've been with my girlfriend for 12.5 years, and still have no wedding plans. I'm sure we'll do it eventually, whether it's on a whim next week, or another 12.5 years from now. Regardless of whether there's a ring or a ceremony, we'll still be together tomorrow, and that's all that really matters to us. We've outlasted all of our friends' marriages, so we're doing something right, at least.

If you're asking if its too long to wait, I'd say no. No need to rush into these things because if you're right for each other, you'll be spending the rest of your life together anyways just my opinion.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with the others. How old are you? It sounds like you're with someone who's unemployed. Are you paying his bills? Do you live together? Being with someone for 6 years with only a promise for the future years down the line sounds unreasonable to me.

Is he in school? Why isn't he working? And why is he waiting that long to get a job? If he is in school then it is ok to wait to get married when he finishes otherwise I am confused. I would not marry someone who doesn't work as I can't support anyone I just don't make enough.

I have been with my SO for almost 10 years and we're not married due to...well a myriad of reasons, mostly financial. Don't stress it too much, best to wait and plan and have an awesome wedding than rush and regret not being able to make it the best, right?
