I think I probably am. I suffer from social anxiety and depression. I hardly ever get out of my house. Our neighbor just died a couple days ago. A very nice man. His visitation is tonight. I know I should go. He was a good neighbor. But I'm thinking that I just can't go. There will be so many people there and I will be expected to talk to his wife and family. Am I bad? My husband definitely will be going. I was thinking of just writing his wife a nice sympathy note. I know I should go, for the family and for my husband. I am so nervous. I am afraid of causing a scene or something. Can I stay home and not be a bad person?

I feel you have to take care of yourself first. Have your husband say you're not feeling well (technically true) and write the sympathy note.

Thanks Cyran0 for replying. I wrote a sympathy note. I think its a nice one. I can judge that by knowing that I would feel good receiving it from someone. I think I will stay home tonight but I haven't told my husband yet. He isn't home yet.

Of course you can. You need to do what's comfortable and right for you. Taking care of yourself doesn't make you a bad person at all. I'm very sorry to hear about your neighbor.

((((((((lindee)))))))) you're obviously not a bad person or it wouldn't even enter your head to write a sympathy note...you'd just think so what. believe me when i tell you that a sympathy note will be just as appreciated as showing up. sometimes it's so overwhelming having to deal with everybody in person when you've suffered a loss that a sympathy note is more appreciated anyways..going by my own personal experience.

just know that you're a good person because at least you care.

be good to yourself. Am I bad?
