Ok... So I was too scared to post this in the Psychiatrist Medication forum because it isn't exactly that. So I will just post this in my loving home, the Anxiety Forum!

Ok... So at the end of this month, I will be seeing my second psychiatrist. After seeing my first, which was a complete dud, I am going to see this lady. I chose her because she didn't look *out there* and looked pretty down to earth. Ok I am horrified to see her. My mother made the appointment, and I am freaking out now. What will it be like to see another different psychiatrist. The other one just asked me basically "what's wrong" and I told him about my anxiety issues, then he told me to try xyz diet.

Is it ok if I don't tell her everything? Is it ok if I don't tell her about my issues focusing right away? Also, what if she wants to talk to my mother and not me? What if she wants my mother to be in the room. The other guy didn't but this is different! This is a new person!

Also, I am going on a school trip soon! Like 4 days after I see this lady... What if I want to stop the medication, but the school won't let me?

You remind me of myself sometimes. Full of "what ifs" When you see your new psychiatrist, just sit down, clear your mind and let her guide you. It will be OK. Just take one thing at a time.

What does the school have to do with you stopping a medication?

Attention issues can definitely be caused by anxiety. I would just be honest with the doctor. It will be okay, and if they want your mom to come into the appointment to ask her opinion that's not anything bad either, sometimes they want to speak to a family member because they may be able to tell more of what's going on that you can't see yourself.

Good luck, it will go fine

Thank you! The school won't let me stop medication while in their control, because it's signed by my guardian to be given. Like they aren't doctors or pharmacists, so they don't know what could happen if I stop my "vital" medication.

I hope it goes well. I will be switching soon and I am very anxious about that. I don't know if they are going to retest me and reinterview my mom. I am kinda anxious for this (a lot actually). I don't know how long it will take either. I'm sure they are going to keep you on the same medication though because if it works, why take it off? Anyways, keel us posted. I want to know from someone else how it feels switching to a new person.

So... If the wait time to see a psychiatrist isn't very long, does that mean that they aren't very good? My mother called today, and it is scheduled almost a week from the day....

I think it just means they're not that busy. Maybe it does mean that. Anyways, the people I have/going to see(n) are covered by Ontario's OHIP (Ontario health insurance plan) so a lot of people probably go see them because it's free. I have been waiting since April -May or so. I haven't got in yet. Anyways, hope it goes well Anxiety about anxiety treatment.... .

hi AnxietyMaster

It would be best to tell the psychiatrist about your issues because she will need all of the information to give you the proper treatment. There is no need to be worried about this as they have heard absolutely everything you can imagine. It is unlikely that she would want your mom in the room, and if she suggested that and you didn't want that then that would be out altogether.
The difficulty with psychiatrists is that the great majority of them do not do therapy to give the skills to manage symptoms so you might like to consider going to a therapist for that. I hope and pray all of this will work out well for you. God bless and best wishes from your friend Francis

Hi AM, I hope this appointment goes much better than the last appointment did. Remember to breathe. Sounds simple, but it's easy to forget & let our breathing get ragged, which worsens anxiety. Also, there's a trick I learned in high school a long time ago that I still use...

Take a big, deep breath. Hold it for 10 full seconds, then slowly let it out. Then breath normally, from deep in your belly. This trick really helps lessen anxiety.

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't been on in awhile, but school caught up to me! Thank you everyone for the tips. I hope that this one goes better than the last one! I will totally have to try and remember to breathe. Maybe write it on my hand?

I'm back! I had a wonderful experience with this new lady. She was so wonderful to talk to, I felt like she really listened. Also, she was talking about meds and was thinking about getting me on an SSRI. I told her Buspirone was working and I didn't want to change. She said ok and wrote me a script for propranolol. I plan on staying with her, as she was wonderful!

She also said that I have severe to moderate GAD, and mild social anxiety which I already knew :3

Well, you seem to be doing better then I am. The thought of taking medication or getting treatment for my anxiety gives me anxiety. Sort of a danged if I do, danged if I don't situation.

Keep up the good work, friend.

That's great! Please tell me your experience with propranolol! I would like to go on it as you know.

We have the same conditions, opposite severity. Well, wish everything goes well for you Anxiety about anxiety treatment.... .

I put treatment off for YEARS. When I finally told my regular doctor I've had anxiety and depression for a long time, she asked me a few simple questions and gave me a prescription for Paxil in less than 5 minutes. It was so easy, I wondered why I waited so long!
