Anyone deal with that here? (Or have before?) Does anything help much?
I've thought in the past I might... among other things.... but always felt dumb about it, like I was being a mental disorder hypochondriac. And no one's ever mentioned it to me, until a week ago, and although I thought it couldn't be, now I'm kinda wondering again. Or maybe I'm just anti-social... or reclusive... or something. Anyway, didn't see any topics here on that, so thought I'd ask.

Hey there my friend...yes social anxiety and I have been bitter sweet friends for a long time. I found that cognitive behavioral therapy is quite helpful. But I know what you are experiencing. You are not anti-social. Do not down yourself for having these symptoms. It is Ok to have them as unpleasant as they are. Learn about and find the appropriate help and I assure you, you will conquer it. Anxiety disorders aren't typically hard to treat especially if you find a good cognitive therapist who knows what he/she is doing. good luck

I suffered many years with social anxiety with panic attacks and it is really crappy I mean really crappy! I would drop college courses if I knew I had to present materials to the classroom. I would have major panic attacks when I had to get up in front of a room full people. In fact I would panic and obsess about event like get up in a front of room full people weeks before the actual event ocurred. My wedding day I had take a valium just so I wouldn't have a panic attack and bolt from the chapel! For me what finally helped me was when I started taking Celexa for my OCD. It was by accident that I realized that Celexa almost cured me of my social anxiety because I was taking it for my OCD and not the social anxiety but for me it helped with both. Also, in a pinch when the celexa isn't working on my social anxiety I will take an as needed pill like Klonopin which works EXTREMELY well. Behavior therapy helps too. Jenn |
