Hi Im getting some mixed messages from my docs. Im in withdrawal now for 8 weeks and still have high anxiety and feel Im still in withdrawal. My pDoc reckons it only takes a week or so for withdrawal of citalopram to wear off - my other doc sayd no - it takes longer - and I got asked a third doc recently (drjon here)and he said 3 weeks!
Do anyone have any views on this? Its getting to the stage where I dont know how I feel or why and no-one seems to have the same info as anyone else. Im ery confused and not sure what to do. Thanks |

Hey there, Bob...
As far as the mixed information you are getting regarding the duration of physical withdrawal symptoms from coming off of Celexa, that doesn't surprise me. Since people respond differently as a general rule, it is truly difficult to pinpoint a precise average for duration. However, one thing you may wish to consider is that it may be a "flinch response" as well. For example, when I was taken off my medication for a while due to lack of funds, I was told that the withdrawal symptoms would last approximately two to three weeks. Yet, I was always not feeling well physically and emotionally, in a constant state of high anxiety and fear. It took me a while to realize that my body was literally missing my meds not in the physical sense but the mental sense. This may or may not be the case for you and I would advise you to see a medical doctor just to make sure that the symptoms you are feeling are not related to something else. I share this information with you just as a food for thought kind of thing and I hope you don't take it as if I am trying to simply dismiss your concerns. Big hugs to you, hun. Please let me know if you need to talk or what you discover regarding this issue. |

Hi Bob....was on celexa for almost a year and stopped rather suddenly.I was worried that my depression and anxiety would return after a quick stop....and It did indeed, although it did seem to work itself through.
In the end I opted for a different med. Keep an eye on it and If things dont get better or get worse go back to doc and consider an alternative treatment.....good luck. |

Rather than being a withdrawal symptom, the anxiety could be the return of an original symptom you took the Celexa for. Now that you are off the drug, it is uncovered again. Could that be the case?
Good luck.

I believe that it's different for everyone. One size does not fit all. Especially with meds....dottie
