i saw an old friend who talked about her anxiety in returning to work she has been in therapy over the issue it seems her therapist said she had anxiety levels to the level of terror, i have similar issues myself advised her to take things slowly and face her fears bit by bit ,she has done this but finds her terror worsening, i suggested her seeing her doc to get some meds to get her over the worst of her fears ,but the fear of that is too much, any advice please?

good therapy and meds can help but it takes time. she shouldn't go back to work until she is ready or she may take a step back.

i suppose there will be other people who would say face the fear and do it anyway, but i just know i couldn't do it right now.

sorry jeff , all i can think of, wish i could help more

Hi jeff,

If your friend is too afraid to go into the office to speak to the doctor, maybe speaking on the phone would help alleviate some of the fear and anxiety before going in for the appointment. That way, the doctor can explain what kinds of questions will be asked, if forms need to be filled out, and basically what the appointment will be like. That may help take more fear away. I know that fear of the unknown or not being taken seriously can freeze someone in their tracks.

Just a thought. I hope it has some merit for your friend anxiety/terror

Jeff:

You may want to offer to accompany her to see a doctor. The extra encouragement and support may just help get her there.

I wish you the best.
