I used to have a problem with peeing shyness in the men's room. Not so much anymore but once in a while still.. But I've discovered a way-just bring to mind you are standing at Niagara Falls. See the foggy mist in the air. Hear the white noise roar and feel the cool spray in your face. See the millions of gallons going over and crashing and swirling to the pools below. If it leads to an out of body experience all the better.
Thanks for this!

Personally I just use the cubicles - never could pee surrounded by other people.
Thanks for this!

Interesting, I wonder how common that problem is?

My husband has told me that he always uses a stall. He's pee shy. I bet it's not that uncommon. I certainly couldn't pee in front of people, but it isn't expected for women.

Then there are those who could pee on TV. At a party many years ago my friend had to go but there was a girl sitting next to the toilet looking in at some change she had dropped in there. He just whipped it out in front of her and let it go.

A little different line-I work at a big store. Sometimes girls will use the men's room, usually if the ladies is busy. They think it's funny. Sometimes guys, cross dressers usually, will use the ladies room. I asked a guy once why he had just used the woman's. He said he was hoping to get lucky.

I hated using the bathroom at group. The bathroom was in the middle of the common room. One time I came out and my therapist was right there. And she knew I had just come out. I was mortified. Every time after that I always held it. Sometimes I’d get extremely uncomfortable. I’ve had nightmares about using the bathroom in the middle of group. While group was going on.

If there is just one stall I refuse to use it. I’m scared there’s someone in there who hasn’t locked the door. It actually happened at Walmart.

So unless I absolutely have to, I refuse to use public restrooms. I’ve felt like this so long I don’t even think it’s a problem.

But sometimes I hold it for hours. Like 8 hours at a time. And I’m so physically uncomfortable. But I just can’t.

You are letting yourself be controlled by irrational thinking-that is ideas that don't make sense. Challenge them.

And what is the reasoning behind it? It's something below the level of conscious thought.

My 15 yr old grandson refuses to use public rest rooms if they are for use by more than one person at a time. He holds it all day at school. Worries me, but I understand he was accosted several times in the men's room by a bully in a different school.
