So I have an ear infection. It’s been going on for a month. I went to the doc last week and was prescribed antibiotics. After 4 days of taking the antibiotics, I thought I was allergic and turns out my panic attack imitiated anaphylaxis and I ended up getting discharged from the hospital after 10 min. The doctor at the ER said she didn’t see anything in my ear (assuming the infection cleared up?) but I had only taken 11 of the 30 doses. I stopped taking the antibiotics for 6 days and I started up again last night (which I know I should’ve waited for my doctor to come back bc he’s on vacation and you should never stop taking antibiotics.) I took them because it seems like the ear pain has come back. now I’m on my 3rd dose and I’m worried that I’ll develop complications from the ear infection and die because it’s somewhat untreated. I can’t sleep or think about anything else. So worried. I’ve seen articles about people who die from ear infections. Welp.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing such severe worry. I understand the focus that makes the concern all encompassing.
You have made a good decision about seeing your Doctor when he returns from vacation. Note when you took the med, when you stopped, and when you started again, so you can answer your doctor clearly on that. Chances are your ear infection isn't bad enough to lose your hearing over stopping for a few days. most likely your Doctor did not take a months vacation. If he did take a long one, you must see someone else that he is sending his patients too, and trust them. If you believe the medication is causing the severe anxiety and panic attacks, I suggest you call your insurance companys nurse help line, and ask what to do. They will most likely tell you to see a Doctor as soon as possible. What isn't helping you is focusing on what you can't control. It increases anxiety, and makes small physical feelings seem big. like how when you get a shot it barely hurts, unless you focus all your mind on that tiny area. Then it feels big. Creativity is often recommended to take our minds off anxiety and put them in a place that changes perspective. You are going to get through this time. ![]() |
