People just suck.

The Netherlands has made fireworks illegal this NYE. Because the hospitals don't need extra pressure from firework injuries when they're already overwhelmed. (Honestly I wish they'd done this years ago, and in Germany as well. It's ridiculous, the amount of noise and destruction in the days leading up to NYE. On the 31st it sounds like a bloody war zone from early morning on until 3 or 4 AM Jan 1st. Poor pets and kids and elderly and sensitive people )

So what do people do? They go over to Belgium to get their fireworks people are so incredibly stubborn!! It's always been a problem, people buying illegal fireworks in Belgium, but now ALL fireworks are forbidden BECAUSE WE ARE IN A PANDEMIC AND HOSPITALS ARE ALREADY FULL and they're still doing it. I can't wrap my head around in. So selfish.

I also got vaccinated with Pfizer. I’m gonna go for the third shot this week.

Yes, I’m in Spain. Things are getting harder now here in what the pandemic regards. Now, kids are getting their vaccines though.

I'm glad you are able to get the third shot this week. In the USA, we call the 3rd shot "booster," but then it gets confusing with the Moderna shots. They like to keep us confused, LOL.

I'm glad Spain is using Pfizer, and I'm glad the kids there are getting vaccinated. Yay!

I am so sorry that you all have to be on lockdown in The Netherlands. And I'm sorry that there won't be any fireworks. What the USA did in some states here last year was to hold online viewings of fireworks, so we could still somewhat see them. But we couldn't, in theory, attend them. People still attended though.

Many veterans and others are sick of fireworks, too. We mainly deal with that around the 4th of July, when we celebrate Independence Day in the USA. But it still sets dogs and those with PTSD from military combat or refugees from warzones on edge. I wasn't ever in combat, but I do have PTSD and the fireworks sets me on edge unless I (a) know when it's scheduled and (b) can see it online or in person. But during this pandemic, I've remained home and just watched the fireworks online.

I hope you are doing okay out there. I'm sorry you are going through so much! It seems like there are similarities and differences in every country! These forums are so diverse - I met someone here from Spain, others from Canada, others from the UK (across the Pond, if that's the correct reference), and now you from The Netherlands. This is cool. I feel like we are all true Earthlings sharing common space. I wished that the world got along better though.

Contagious have raised a lot lately. We already knew it was something to expect since we saw what was happening in other European countries.

At least, hospitals situation is not getting so effected as before thanks to the vaccines.

Now, we have to show a vaccine certificate or a test one to sit at a restaurant, we still use the mask inside and also outside when we cannot keep the safety distance.

I understand you, guys, like fireworks. I also like them, not the noise, the lights, but when you have two doggies and they came all scared when they hear them, you are not so much a fan of them anymore. lol!

What I can’t stand is the noise and especially the firecrackers. There are some firecrackers nowadays that sound as if you were in a World War.

In places like Long Beach, California and elsewhere, there are people in the U.S. who use actual firearms to shoot off their guns around the 4th of July and sometimes for New Years. Some people have gotten accidentally injured or killed from unintentional bullets that went through thin walls or while someone was walking outside. It felt like a warzone! I try not to live in those areas, but that is typically what happens in certain low-income areas in our country, which is crazed with their firearms.

But the poor doggies and perhaps other animals like birds and cats that can't bark will feel the pain of all that noise once or twice a year. I like the lights, but not the sounds, of fireworks.

I just hope we all have a safe New Years.

What do people think about this? What can I say, I find it irritating that this person is advertising that tourists should get their booster while here. We don't have vaccines to give to any tourist that just rolls up. Some centers have very long lines already Many days they run out of vaccines. It's not like certain countries where vaccines are going to waste due to low demand.


Chileans and permanent residents are required to have the booster to conserve their Mobility Pass (like a vaccine passport) as of January 1st. It is a lie that this is required of tourists, which was her excuse. Plus, she CHOSE to travel during a pandemic with all the complications that entails.


I guess you could argue giving them to tourists due tothe cost of health care for tourists if they do get Covid, but tourists are required to purchase insurance for Covid and present proof upon entry.


Ugh, and the whining about how tourists have to pay more to get into national parks. That is a classic. Her complaint about higher transportation costs for foreign visitors doesn't ring true to me. I have never observed that. When tourists from developed nations were whining because they could not get out of quarantine early, when that was required, they loved to mention how much money they were bringing into the economy. It is like they should not have to follow the rules because we need the tourist dollars.

I have heard of other countries giving reduced park entry fees to residents. After all, the parks are primarily financed with tax dollars. Entrance fees are on top of that. And, I am sure I pay a lot more in taxes living here full-time than a tourist does on a short stay.

No, don't blame it on getting old! honestly the noise has always bothered me and it also bothered me that it bothered me because I didn't want to be a grumpy old woman. It even bothered me when I was a teen!

I don't have PTSD but am highly sensitive. So there's a reason it bothers me more than other people maybe and it's okay to admit that. Heck, even if I wasn't HSP.... it's okay not to like the noise!

Seriously, if your "fun" brings that much trouble to others, it's pretty selfish to insist you still deserve to do it. And I'm also not talking about the pretty fireworks at midnight on NYE - I also like to watch those. But the LOUD ones and the fact that they do it for days and letter boxes have to be removed or secured so kids won't throw fireworks inside - there's just no need.
And that's not even taking into account all the injuries. Losing an eye just isn't worth it.

I know it’s a touchy topic in the States but I’m all against the use of guns by most part of the population. Too dangerous. There are many accidents and suicide of young people.

See what happened in the filming of Alec Baldwin’s movie. The people there used to play shooting with real ammunition when they were not filming.

Me too. I’m pretty sensible to noise. I literally run away when there’s noise. I’m very concern about it. Indeed, I complain a lot when living in a city. I think the level of noise is not normal. It’s not healthy.

I feel bad for Baldwin. I haven't kept up with the news story though. And I'm for gun control and stricter gun laws out here. I know some people can handle guns responsibly, but others really cannot. I don't own any weapons, and I like it that way. I'm a veteran, and I have mental health issues, so I think it's safest that I don't own any weapons anyway.

I had to put my one dog down a year ago and he would shake and hide under me when there were fireworks. People here go across the bridge to PA and buy fireworks. The issue is in NJ we have million people and not a lot are spread out. So you have fools setting them off in backyards
Right near other peoples homes. My remaining dog is blind and deaf and does t care at all now.

I had a neighbor who had a blind dog. His dog was really small. He carried his dog in his hands to help him go to the bathroom outside. I was a smoker back then, so I would see my neighbor late at night when I was outside smoking. Sadly, I think my neighbor passed away from covid in 2020. I heard crying outside my door during the lockdowns, as well as ambulance sirens. I'm now renting one of the storage spaces they used to rent - a year later. I can't believe he is gone. I think his wife survived. I only met them in passing a few times before the pandemic, but we lost touch after. His wife would frequently travel out of state for work, so I think maybe she caught it that way and accidentally gave it to her husband.

Anyway, he took really good care of his blind dog. I often wondered if the dog was scared of fireworks. His dog seemed like he was shaking when he was cold or when he heard an unfamiliar voice, like mine. I felt so bad for the doggie. I wanted to just hug the dog.

I also live in a dense neighborhood and hate it when people shoot off illegal fireworks near my house.


I've found tourism to be maddening during this pandemic. We were marketed as a safe place and what used to be a seasonal influx now seems to have no end. If I were a tourist in Chile, I'd probably get a booster, just in case, but it's ethically problematic. The comment about how people should be thanking tourists for all their money, omg. If we can charge 10x as much to keep those people at home, I'm in favor. People with that kind of attitude are probably the same people who wouldn't stay in the hotel if they felt sick because they wouldn't want to waste their vacation. Tourists paying more than residents is common and seems fair.

@hvert - Yeah, I think that people that are traveling on long haul flights to get here are probably less likely to take precautions or may potentially look for ways not to follow the rules here - especially entitled people like in the post I shared. The more cautious are still taking a wait and see approach before booking long flights like that.

I just remembered that a few years back my husband and I went to Torres del Paine National Park on a day tour. There was another Chilean family and two women from Spain. The Spanish women complained a lot about having to pay a higher entry fee. I think it was about twice what we paid.

I'm with you, those people are getting a free vaccination that they have no right to get for free from another country. I could see if you were already in the country for another reason (work, family) but as a tourist? Piss off NO sympathy for tourists who are affected by covid restrictions. Everyone knows by now that is something that can happen. If you still choose to go on holiday - tough luck.

It's the same as Dutch people hopping over the border to Germany to get their vaccine earlier. Do they pay health insurance in Germany? No? Then they're not entitled to a free vaccine here! It would be one thing if they were getting it to be SAFE, but no, most people are getting it so they can go on bloody holiday to Austria. (Yes, I also got my vaccine in Germany as a Dutch person but I officially live and work here )

It’s a common thing they get all crazy when hearing such hard noise. I saw and I can’t forget one New Year’s Eve, when I was at the balcony, how a doggie scape his owners because of the noice of fireworks and he was running all crazy without knowing where to refuge himself. I could feel his despair.

People shouldn’t travel at these moments, unless it’s absolutely necessary.

I don’t want to recall how youth from other European countries rent planes to come to Madrid because in their countries there was a curfew.
I understand air companies and hotels have to survive but you, as a citizen can travel and do whatever, but taking the safety measures.

If I travel now to Portugal, as an example, I’m gonna behave according to what my common sense tells me under these especial circumstances.

These kinds of situations take the best but also the worst out of people. This is one of the problems. Some people is freaking selfish as hell.

Gals and guy! One thing. I heard from doctors and virologists that what we have to do now regarding the pandemia is to fight for the vaccines to reach those countries that are poor and don’t have the means to get their population vaccinated.
I think it’s what we should do, push the governments to provide these vaccines.
Along with my concern for people who are not so lucky as we are, there is the fact that we could avoid other variants.

I think you're right! There are so many vaccines being tossed into the trash because not enough people are getting boosters or initial vaccine shots in certain parts of our country. Many of those vaccines could have been shipped to areas that need more vaccines, especially boosters. I wished that we set aside the economic gains and focused more on overall public health and safety at a global level, because this pandemic is a global responsibility, not just a local/country-based one. Everyone across the globe has to work together to end and prevent pandemics. It's sad when some people, institutions, and otherwise are selfish, which affect the entire ecological system across the globe.

We're first and foremost Earthlings living in this climate that we maintain, then we're human beings on planet Earth, then we are part of certain cultural groups that work with other cultural groups across the globe, then we take care of our own, and so on and so forth.

183,000 cases yesterday which is another record. There’s now very few lateral flow tests to be had, just because of sheer numbers requiring them. Vaccinated household contacts of covid positive people need to take a daily negative test in order to leave the house, plus positive cases now need to test negative by lateral flow on days 6 and 7 to be allowed to leave quarantine. You think the government would have worked out with the massive increase of cases because they’ve allowed this to let rip through the population that there would be a massive increase in demand for lateral flow tests! This is quite aside from the many people who are doing the responsible thing and testing before going out and socialising.

Honestly you could not make this up. This government are the stupidest most incompetent administration we’ve ever had!

It seemed to me funny because I’ve been complaining about the decisions by my Govern, too.
The thing is that I have sometimes doubts about conspiracy theories to put in the power of the nations, the most as$holes possible.
