I wish our country would go on lockdown. Freedom has its price, and that includes increased violent crimes, sedition, treason, hate, murder, superspreading events, clogged ERs, overwhelmed ICUs, deaths, lack of graveyard spaces, resentments, civil uprisings, riots, protests, civil unrest, polarization, divisions, stigma, discrimination, segregation, cheating, isolating, fears, judgments, discord, dissention, lies, healthcare crises, mutations, arguments, breakups, and more.

@Discombobulated - I hope you are feeling better and are able to have a speedy recovery and are able to go out again soon. I hope your friends and husband and loved ones remain free from the virus, too.
I've been struggling lately because a friend of mine in a different state has Covid, though he refuses to get tested, but the symptoms seem like Covid. Anyway, I just worry about a lot these days, so it comes out in my posts on this pandemic. I hope you are doing well though. I don't think I've seen posts from you lately, so I just wanted to check in. (((safe hugs))) ![]() |

I don't particularly want a lockdown but with so much talk about how another lockdown is most likely coming, I wish they'd just get it over with.

@SprinkL3 thank you for thinking about me, I’m doing fine and I’m out of isolation now, I did the full 10 days, testing negative now. Day 9 I felt awful and extremely tired, it really is a horrible virus but I think my 2 vaccines stopped me getting any respiratory symptoms. My husband and son have stayed negative and well throughout thankfully.
I was back in work this morning, which felt daunting but my colleagues are good, and straightaway my supervisor put me on lighter duties. I love the buzz of retail on Christmas Eve so it was nice to be among it, I only did 4 hours though which was just right as I was tiring quickly. I managed to buy some gifts for my parents which was a big relief- I am making a hamper for them, despite not really buying for anything else. I have been reading they are now confident Onicron is leading to less hospital admissions which is great news. Plus also the vaccinations are making a big difference across all variants. @BreakForTheLight yes it’s the threat of these things that feels worse! Plus also lockdowns work more effectively when they are done earlier! |

I can't see a lockdown happening here. Many places, like govt. buildings and college campuses, never fully reopened anyway. The state set a curfew last year to stop people from hanging out at bars. Due to staffing shortages, many places are still keeping those hours. I suspect the local library will close again and the city will implement a mask mandate after Christmas. I'm sorry we were lucky enough to live through this, it sucks and I'm sick of it.

My brother, my sister-in-law and my niece have corona. They are going through it with mild symptoms, I guess because they are vaccinated.
I heard a virologist on TV saying that in the end, we are all to get infected in one moment or another.

That’s interesting what the virologist said, I think more people have had this than know, a third of people are asymptomatic. Certainly my own symptoms were very vague and if I didn’t do tests regularly I would have just thought it was a cold other than the fatigue which has been heavy. |

My sister, who is a middle school teacher, my brother in law, and 5 and 8 year old nephews are over. We have been doing everything. Touching everything. Everyone is vaccinated and the adults are boosted although none of that seems to mean anything anymore. I'm not really worried at the moment. Everyone in my family seems kinda somber and concerned about something and I dont know if they are just fretting trying to get dinner ready or if they are concerned about covid or if I'm just imagining things and they are fine.
My mom had a stiff neck on Monday. Doctor said it was arthitis not covid. So she didnt do a test. 2 days later I got a really stiff neck. I thought maybe I was worried about my mom and mirroring her subconsiouly. We both seem to be ok now. I do have some general aches and pains right now and some fatigue. This whole thing is strange though. |

I read the article. I love the Atlantic. I’m curious about your opinion: the article talked a lot about other “pandemics” but not many people died. How can we reconcile so many people that have died from covid and the rising cases currently hitting the USA and at least here in NJ overwhelming our health care system? I think SprinkL3 means that they had 2 vaccines but not their booster. This was the case for me too. I think the booster helps a lot in protecting us.

Some people is being pretty selfish. Sociologists will explain why this attitude. Nothing comes from spontaneous creation.

I’m not sure what to make of this, we had record daily cases of over 113,000 on Christmas Day, but no restrictions announced yet. I really have suspected the English government are trying for herd immunity for some time now. It’s a big gamble. It risks mutations (less benign ones) and the health service. I’d love to think herd immunity could work but all I’ve read has lead me to be sceptical of this being a reality.
I really appreciate the need to help the economy but the week I had covid 1.7 million in the UK did too. That’s a lot of people missing from work places. So then they reduce isolation to 7 days potentially if 2 negative lateral flow tests 24 hours apart on days 6 and 7, which is about getting people back to work ASAP. Except I wonder how many people will test negative on days 6 & 7? I didn’t test negative until day 10 and I was still unwell on day 7. A lot of people I know said the same thing. I went back to work on day 11 and felt a bit whoozy, day 12 still felt unwell (Christmas day) not until day 13 did I feel properly well again, so all in all it was 2 weeks of illness for me. So letting this rip isn’t really so great for the economy or infrastructure generally and that’s aside from medical service burden. |

They didn't get their booster shots because they weren't eligible yet. They weren't at the 6-month mark. They had a breakthrough case, but so far they are still okay. They don't know what variant they have, but they lost taste and smell, on top of having fevers, etc.
My nephew, who is on leave from the Army, is staying with them. He tested negative for the virus, and he is fully vaccinated but not boosted yet. He has to test multiple times and then again when he returns to the military base. It would be a miracle if he tests negative the entire time, as perhaps the vaccine works on preventing some covid but not others. It's weird. As long as they can recover without dying or getting permanently disabled, I'm good. I'm worried though because my niece and her husband are obese, but my nephew is not (apparently, he is fit and in shape, due to being in the military and otherwise). I think if they were boosted, they would have been able to avoid getting covid. I don't think they have omicron though, and neither do they. They think they probably have Delta. Perhaps they were most infectious the first days of getting it, but they didn't get the test results into recently. Perhaps that could also be why my nephew still tested negative. I hope it stays that way. |
