I have a severe snake phobia and today there was one in the road. (Funny, I can't seem to run over them either) I was just getting used to being outdoors, on the ground. Now, I am stuck again. I feel like I can't leave my deck or porch. I'm even having a hard time putting my feet on the floor! I know it's irrational, but I can't get past it.
Just letting out some of the anxiety here, thanks for "hearing" me.

A couple months ago there was a garter snake on our stairs leading down to our lower yard and dock; fortunately the neighbor was out mowing his lawn so I made him come try and get it (he failed). Doesn't matter that it is a harmless garter snake, I'm now afraid to use the stairs and go down (or back up :-) to our dock/boat. I so badly want to work on the hill plants/garden bed but am "sure" I'll meet the snake again; I'm hyper alert even in the upper backyard now (we live in a little townhouse) and that kind of ruins my experience too.

I don't even have a true phobia; if someone is holding a snake and others are around "petting" it I don't have any problems with petting it too and have even held a small snake for a moment in such conditions.

We have a little dock on the pond in our backyard and I love to be out on it (feels safe), but, I have to check the yard out and run. Then, I have to do the same thing on the way back.
I'm into container gardening on my deck or porch, gave up on flowerbeds, unless I "direct" my husband where to put things!
I can hardly look at pictures in a book, and I will go to the pet store, but I definitely stay far away from that area!

Freaking out!!

take care and HUGS!
