I saw Pdoc today for med check. Im bipolar and have lots of anxiety (who doesnt?)

She always writes me a receipt for my payment and puts the DSM code on it for what Im being treated for. So usually its just says 296.896 (bipolar 2)

But today it has 2 more codes on it 300.02 and 300.01. These codes are for Panic Disorder w/o agorophobia and generalized anxiety disorder. I have been treated for anxiety by her before. Why did she put these codes on there this time? Her center is sliding scale and doesnt accept insurance so shes not submitting it to be claimed.

Is this some dx or what?

Those are just diagnosis codes that she needs for documentation. Even if she doesn't submit to insurance, she needs to document her diagnoses.

Yes. Now that it is in your chart, that is an official diagnosis. If she did not discuss these with you, give her a call.

It's very common for people with mental health issues to have more than one diagnosis. My P-doc only writes one down on the bill, but in my chart there's more.

sometimes docs will put down another diagnosis to prescribe a medication ..
the pbs (in aus) will allow only some meds to be used for certain diagnosis until enuff study has been done to show its usefulness for other dx.
by putting someone has another dx they can get the med cheaper for the pt even thou they do not have that dx... man i hope i not confusin yall..

The bad part of that is that by using that diagnosis, the patient is forever listed as having it. Could definately cause problems down the road.

thats makes sense in ur case, however she did not prescribe a diff med. its the same i have had before this visit. so i dont think she would put a new code for that med for that reason b/c i already had it. i have had anxeity meds before, but never those codes. so i am thinking maybe she did this now b/c she has been treating my anxiety long enough now to understand me
