scared of the dark

sorry if this doesn't belong here, i just thought i shouldn't overload the general forum just cuz i'm afraid someone will tell me to F off from a more defined forum... just wanted to vent a little

i get very nervous when going outside in the night. My subject is a little off, as i'm not scared of the dark itself, but what (or actually who) might be lurking in it... I'm not scared if i have another person with me (except if the person frightens me in purpose ) but when i have to take my dog out in the night i am very alert, my heart starts racing if i hear something or if my dog acts like she heard something.. and also in dark of course objects may sometimes look as though they were moving and so on... i get terrified if there's some drunken guy staggering around, i was just out a while ago and there was some old man like that and i'm still very shaken about it

pitch-dark is the worst... i'm convinced that someone is following me and i just can't get myself to calm down even when i know it's so irrational and just plain stupid to think that

part reason why i wanted a dog is the possible increase of the sense of security... with my dog though it feels as though trying to protect yourself with a paperboard shield against a dragon i try though.. i take her closer to me when having to pass people like that...

i'm just babbling am i and yet i am posting this... geez

I understand that you feel that way. I too get very nervous sometimes when out in the dark... or sometimes even in my own room lol. i think it's quite normal to feel that way... i hope hehe

I sleep with a night light on. I, too, can be fearful when I am out alone in the dark. All I can say is the world can be a scary and dangerous place. Can be doesn't mean it is all the time. It can also be a safe place. But it is smart for all of to stay alert when we are out by ourselves. It is just common sense.

yeah i know... it's just that nothing happens around here really.. maybe it does downtown or more so in helsinki but not HERE, i think finland is a pretty safe country altogether though.. i guess eh.. well... drunken people are scary no matter what time of the day or part of the country...
