So the governer held a press conference last night, 2 unconfirmed cases popped up in the next county over. He said the only reason they are unconfirmed is we don't have the test for the exact strain so they had to send it to the CDC but that it didn't match any other strain of influenza so it's probable. He was much better about calming my fears than the US government and said not to panic, we have more than enough meds, and he is going to make sure that everyone gets covered financially even if you don't have insurance or are not a legal resident. One of the guys that has it is in the hospital about 10 minutes away from me so they have been showing pictures of everyone in that hospital wearing masks. It's really kind of creepy.

It was only a matter of time considering where we live. The school sent an email saying they are not closing yet but were issued face masks by the government and have crews ready to disinfect. They say if a kid gets a fever in school they are going to evacuate and have the contamination crew on hand, and will close all the schools in the city. I am hoping this blows over soon, having it ten minutes away from me is scaring me. All night last night I kept thinking I am going to be the first person without a fever to die from it, lol. I didn't sleep at all and when I got up my cold was making my chest tight and I kept thinking I couldn't breathe. I was very close to keeping my son home from school today. So that's my swine flu story of the day lol.

Well now it's only about 20 minutes away from where I live. I'm ready to start my anxiety reducing methods of survival just about now. Don't know if the scenic DVDs will actually work for this, though. Oh boy...

She'd been in Cancun, Mexico, earlier this month. The woman remains hospitalized, although officials would not say where.

Just read a few articles in the newspaper. One said that the viruses that are being carried out of Mexico are less virulent because those people can travel. The more virulent viruses disable the carriers and they are unable to travel to spread that one. The other article talked about the epicenter of the virus being an overcrowded pig farm (in Mexico). It said that crowded farm factories are virulent virus incubators.

Everyone's fine! The school was just overly cautious. His ped said that he is seeing so many kids because the schools don't know what to look for. Turns out he just has really horrible allergies that are making him sick so he put him on some steroids for it since his tonsils were swelling.

They had in the paper yesterday a little boy form the town over has got swine flu. But the CDC lowered the level on the alert thing. So I don't think it is going to get too bad. Just think human flu kills more every year than this flu has. So prayer s fo reveyrone I think it will be ok

I think we probably have a better chance of getting hit by a car, at this point, than getting the swine flu. My opinion is that the CDC has a better handle on what's going on than some of the 'gloom and doomer's' would have us believe...........

Just out of curiousity, has anyone considered that our scientists in the states may have started this flu in order to test how quickly a germ can spread? It probably sounds nutty but they have really been talking about pandemics + germ warfare for the past 10 years or so. They might be gathering data on how fast it can spread and how quickly it escalates into worldwide panic.

Well, it was just a thought !

Hey knothead.
i think something like that to with this swine flu. Not to sound weird or paranoid but my friend and I was talking and it we thinkit's a conspriacy of sorts. I'm not saying it's not out there making people sick. But i don't think it's serious as the CDC is saying. If you think about it, people are scared, and when they hear the word pandemic and swine flu and they get the common cold or this time of year the flu the rush to the doctors office and the dr's and drug companies make alot of money. My sister as really sick yesterday morning and she started freaking out. Well by that afternoon she was better. She came to realize it was because her boyfriend slept with the fan blowing on them all night and it made her feel sick. I'm not saying to not be viligent but be informed about the statistics of things. The human flu kills 30,000 (or something like that) people a year in the states. Just be sure to wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough and if you do have a swine flu case in your town and feel fluey then go to the doc.

Yeah Thunderbear, I think you understand what I was talking about, I was sort of afraid people would just think I was nutty.

I still think they wanted to research how people would react to a super-bug and gauge how quickly a virus would be able to spread. It started in Mexico, right? That's a perfect place to start something like that because it's a good "launch spot", lots of vacationers from all over the world. It seems rather calculated to me -- start out slow, let the panic build as the virus spreads, hints from CDC and WHO that this could be bad -- then suddenly they start calming people down, and say it's not that bad after all, continue on with your normal lives. Like perhaps they got all the research data they needed?? I can't help it, I really don't trust our government at all, especially after Bush/Cheney.

i think we shouldn't be encouraging panic and fear by making such paranoid posts.
this aint a scifi movie or something, it's reality.

Though i still think its hyped up to much, like mentioned it kills less people then the regular flu. ITS JUST FLU PEOPLE, CHILL!

hey Blue. i'm not encouraging panic. At least not meaning to. Like I said in my last post. I don't think it's as bad as the media has said. Besides it's a topic everyone is being bombarded with on the news, in the papers, and on the internet headlines anyway. And i agree with you i think it is just a flu not some plauge like the media and CDC wants us to think.

Hey Blue, I think you're taking my message the wrong way, I didn't mean any harm by it. I'm seriously not trying to panic anyone, these things are just fun to debate -- it lets you see how others think.

It is just the flu, actually a very mild form compared to "normal "flu. T-bear's right, the regular flu kills thousands of people each year, it's much more dangerous. That's why I think perhaps they manufactured this mild form and set it in motion -- it's less likely to be lethal. They have to conduct research some way don't they?? If I'm right, it means they now know how long it takes to start spreading across borders and worldwide, and also how the public will react if something ever does happen.

It's just talk -- I didn't mean to offend anyone.
Thanks for this!
