I am 41 and my psychologist has said more than likely that I have ADD. The diagnosis has seemed to put a lot together. It seems to explain a lot of problems that occurred in past, the daydreaming, the zone-out,... I was wondering with those who have been given meds, was it your family doctor or a doctor-referred psychiatrist who prescribed it?

Before this diagnosis, my family doctor has prescribed anti-depression drugs, the last beiing Pristiq.

Does anybody have any examples?

Hello! I know what you mean about an ADD diagnosis putting things together. Until I was diagnosed I was always frustrated with the way I was and the way my brian just didnt seem to function normally. After knowing it is ADD that makes me the way I am everything became clearer and made me feel better that it is not my "fault" that I am unorganized and scatter-brained and unfocused.

I initially got my meds from my family dr. I switched to a specialist and get the meds from him now. I switched for this because I wanted someone that knew more about ADD. I love my family dr, but he doesn't really deal with Adult ADD.

Not sure what sort of examples you was looking for, but hope that helps.

I am in my mid 40's and have been dx with ADHD for about 10 years (I always knew something was 'not right'). Over the years I have been prescribed several medications (i.e. Strattera, Concerta, Ritalin, Wellbutrin) by by primary care doctor. Either way, it is best to be prescribed medications by a doctor your trust (psychiatarist or regular doctor). It is also important that you know as much (do your own research on ADHD) about the disorder as you can, including information on various medications!!

I find that "long lasting" (or sustained release) medications work best for me. But I also have anxiety and depression, I believe as a result of my often times, out of control ADHD symtopms. I also have taken anti-depressants but along with the ADHD medication.

Good luck!
