If you want to lose weight and are overweight, then don't hope the medication will do it for you. YOU have to be the one to lose it. It's not healthy if you are going to rely on a medication, especially one like this, to help you lose weight. It's very unhealthy, actually.
If you want to lose weight, do it PROPERLY, see a doctor and/or a nutritionist and/or dietitian, don't use pills as the way to do it though. |

It is abusing medication if you are going to want, even expect, weight loss from it, IMO.
I don't agree with this and hope you will keep up with the healthy way to lose it. Good luck. |

Rachie, I take Adderall and it does tend to reduce your appetite, but I am inclined to attribute it to my greater focus on tasks in general.
If you really want to lose weight, do a completely vegan diet. You can eat alot more that way plus it's uber healthy. The net is loaded w/ Vegan sites and recipes. ![]()

Rachie,
I did lose a lot of weight on Ritalin, it completley suppressed my appetite to the point it was unhealthy for me. But then I was so engrossed in concentration on other things I hardly notices. Wishing you carefulness with this Paddy |

While Adderall will suppress your appetite it will still be up to you to not eat unneeded food during the day.... if you are looking for something to actually help move the weight loss along then I would talk to your doctor about Tenuate (a medicine use by over weight patients to help them loss weight when it is endangering their health).

Hi Rachie, ![]() ![]() ![]() About your finnally getting cranked up on some real fine meds.... ![]() ![]() ![]() Speacking from one who is debilitaed by distraction and impulse control I hope for you every good thing the meds will do for you with few side effects and hopefully not to become addicted . Those can be additional problems when taking a controled substance like Adderal. The thought of the body getting hooked and gong through withdrawl when not taking them I find scary . Some want to be on the drugs some wish they never had . For some its like the movie 'Awakenings' with Robin Williams. its not uncommon for a sufferer to have high hopes of a mirical. Thats the draw and the fear I find in myself. Since most women are so focused on weight and body issues and its the underground spoken but not spoken competiveness amungst women and some men . Its probaby a good idea to not look at ADHD drugs as a means to an end in that area . Even though they have linked weight problems with ADHD in women It becomes a double edged sword in the minds of doctors when prescribing ADHD meds. For example. Just on my past history alone MY GP doc will not prescrobe me narcotic pain meds even though I have never been addicted to any drug or even alchohol. That I do not want or need such meds is to MY benifit . I do not want them I don't even take advil . I have no idea what around the bend for myself with having had and have to work daily on my ED. no matter if i have drugs or not that will be a given . My thoughts are Its in the need or the thought to use a drug " that in my opinion decscribes what addiction can be . For me I used alchohol and food to help me focus. To help me do the tasks I could not do, that others could do easily or I do not want to do because it is a struggle for me on a daily basis . Or to calm escalating thougthts that are trggered by others comments or actions in response to MY ADHD stimulating shame or fear, For those who are slaves to compulsive over eating and bulimia there is much hope for lessening of the symptoms. For those who have anorexia though they need ADHD drugs thier mentality to loose weight to the point of loosing thier life preculdes being prescribed a stimulant drug . and its rather unfair but thats the Mud and the marvel ,the oxymoronic tale of ADHD and eating disorders. EDs are classified as Obsessive compulsive . I think all addictions by thier nature are under that umbrella. Do all people who have weight problems have ADHD? . Don't know . It would not surprise me if the answer may be yes. Some women like myself and others who have faced and continue to face thier food issues without the use of drugs and let thier doctors know , cannot get such drugs even though they have shown to be effective in lessening the symptoms. If anger fuels the need for food some adhd drugs may increase the food problem rather than help it. Yet anger is also a product of past conditioning triggering of the mind and soul . its a cumuative effect and I guess it can be drug induced as well . Hard to tease out . It's my hope for you and anyone suffering from the debilitaing mind confussion , lack of organization , being pulled in five possibilites on any given moment and not being able to choose and focus on just one and get it done ... thus feeling dispare ..and the need to medicate through food alchohol or drugs . INHALE... THAT the controled realeased Adderall will help you in the other areas of your life and decrease the impulses or what looks like impulses. Any help to not have to white knuckle the physiological effects we have to fight with food on a daily basis in my book is a welcome relief if it happens for you Rachie. Or anyone who is diagnoised with ADHD. Im happy . For the future. People respond better when one focuses on other areas that ADHD limits , like being able to be there for others ,remembering, being on time, being accountable, more sociable, less inclined to be angry and impatient , than "I hope it helps me loose weight" . I could have said that with fewer words .. But I like too .. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And Im hoping I'll be dicovered and asked out on a 'DATE' so I can say No! ![]() Patricia |

I started Adderall in the middle of August. I started out at 234 lbs, and as of yesterday I was 220.
![]() While this is related to the medication, I am hoping by the time I am regulated that it is not causing me to lose weight, I can keep the momentum going. I think it's important to "get my head straight" before I was going to tackle my weight issue. While the weight loss is a pleasant surprise, I refuse to hang on to the medication as my way to lose weight. I want to get regulated and coached to functional, THEN apply a well thought out plan of attack to get my weight down. Make sure you bring up these issues with your doctor, they should have great information for you.

I had already gone from 250 lbs to 215 before taking Adderal. I went from 215 to 175 way too fast (4 months) once I began taking it, didn't even notice how much I had lost until one day I happened to get on a scale. I am 6'2" tall and have generally a large build. People thought there was something wrong with me. It scared me. So, now I make sure I eat early in the day and often. I take in a lot of calories before I take Adderal in the morning. I have to make myself remember to eat during the day, because the urge to eat is not always there. I usually eat a good dinner. By paying attention, I have increased my weight to 185 in about 45 days.
It's very nice to think I will not be fat again anytime soon, but losing too much weight is dangerous and I let it happen without noticing. I think when I was overweight I got in the habit of not looking at myself too closely in the mirror. And the idea that I could lose too much never entered my mind. When I did take a good look I realized that I looked awful. I looked better at my heaviest. Adderal has caused a wonderful change in my life. I don't know how I managed before. I can listen, prioritize and actually concentrate on a few things at a time instead of a hundred. I don't think I'll ever think about one thing at a time. I can't really imagine it, but frankly, it is entertaining to be able to think about more than one thing at a time as long as I'm actually completing what I have to complete. My Doctor weighs me in once a month now and if I fail to keep my weight up, he may reduce or eliminate the medication, so I have that for motivation as well. Good luck to you. |

I just had mine increased (from 20 mg a day to 50-60mg a day) and am experiencing the side effects again. I know they will get better as my body regulates to the new dosage. I am overweight and have dropped about 20 lbs now. I am talking to my ADHD coach about keeping that motivation going as I regulate, but you make really good points and I need to keep an eye on that. I seem to believe in my head that I will never get too thin, but it is a possiblity! Thank you!
