Hello everyone! I'm very much confused at this moment. Is it possible to mistaken ADD/ADHD for depression. I do have depression I was diagnosed about a couple of years ago. But it seems to be getting worse. I took the tests last night but I just wanted to get someones opinion.
Thank you.

Thank you.

I have struggled with Anxiety disorder and Depression most of my life. I was tested at age 10 and told I was not ADD. After my 9 year old daughter was diagnosed, they tested me too. Low and behold! At 34, I am ADD.

I started medication the middle of last month. My psychiatrist advised me that my anxiety level may go down since I might be better able to stay on top of things. I have to say, while my dosage isn't quite right and can take time to get regulated, I have been much calmer!

Good luck!

Thanks for the opinion. I'm seeking for a psychiatrist at the moment. Unfortunatly, I don't get insurance through my job. So hopefully soon I'll see someone. At this point, I don't care if its a regular M.D. I just need someone who can diagnose this. Its driving my poor boyfriend nuts.

My husband too! He lives in a sea of estrogen (we have 2 daughters and even the dog is female) stuck on an ADD ship! (All three of us girls are some type of ADHD). Hang in there! A psych doctor is a better option as they have more information, but do what you can. I am lucky to have insurance through my husband's work and can see a private doctor. Check out your county's options. There are doctors who will work with a sliding scale for payment!

Before my husband was diagnosed with ADD, he was being treated for depression. All I can say is that the antidepressant drugs made him all fuzzy and out of focus. As it turns out they only heightened his ADD. Once he go off the antidepressant drugs and onto the Concerta he has done a whole 180. He is back to what he was before the antidepressants and even better.

Depression could be secondary to the ADD the same way that depression is often secondary to many chronic illnesses.

The Otterone, I love your "Blessed are the cracked" line!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I found a psychologist. He's actually a friend of my boss and he said he would take me on as a patient for a low price. I'm totally excited. My mom says the samething about depression is probably secondary to the A.D.D. I found out my dad has it and I knew my mom has it and she's on meds and she said that her being on Concerta has helped her so much. I can't wait for my first appt.

Hang in there! You and someone close to you may be doing observational evaluations about you. Be as honest as you can! It's hard, but you will get the most accurate diagnosis that way!

My husband was scared to have me see his evaluation about me. I promised I didn't need to see it, and even though I could ask my doctor to see it now, I won't.

IF, and I mean IF you find you are ADHD and they recommend your doctor to prescribe medication,
you will notice a change as soon as you start taking it. (This may be jumping the gun...) Your focus will increase and your brain gets quieter. But it does not CURE ADHD. I just went through a medication increase (it can take up to a year to get the right medication and dosage) and still see the symptoms. You tend to notice when you are distracted more (I refer to that as my "ooh shiny" or "oh look! A chicken" moments.) At first this depressed me, then I realized that by knowing when/what caused the distracted moments, I could learn to minimize them. I am also working with an ADHD Life Coach to help me learn to work with my ADHD, not against it.

There are a lot of good (and free! ) sites that have information on ADHD and networks run by ADHD coaches, specifically for women with ADHD. Feel free to PM me if you would like the ones I know of. I may just be starting my own journey with this, but I am happy to share any information I get if it will help! Good luck, and no matter what, if you are diagnosed or they decide you do not have ADHD, we support you!

BTW- it's great that your boss is helpful! I am extremely lucky to have an incredibly supportive boss. I was incredibly upset when our FT suggested I may be ADHD (since I had been told I wasn't at age 10). When I told my boss, he looked me right in the eye and said "I always thought so, but it makes you who you are! I've just always tried to play to your strengths. I will always support you any way I can and you will go far!" What a relief!

Thanks so much for that information. I hate pills but I know if I am diagnosed with whatever it is I have. I'm going to have to suck it up. I just can't stand it anymore. I will for sure PM you for those sites. My boss doesn't know that I set up an appointment with his friend. I'm in the medical field and I'm sure with my boss being a Dr. himself he probably already has figured it out. I very much appreciate the support. I definatly need some of that. My boyfriend is pretty much fed up with it. He's trying but he gets so easily irratated with me.
