I have ADHD. I was diagnosed months ago, though I've known it for years. It just got too difficult for me to deal with. I couldn't apply for the position of teacher leader that I needed to in order to keep my position at the school. Consequently, I lost my existing position at work. I still work, but, do not have my own classroom after 24 years of teaching.
I am very sensitive to medications. For example, if a med normally calls for 300 mg, (welbutrin, that I take for SAD), I take 100 mg. If I take more, I get panic attacks. It was years of trial and error before my doc and I understood that I cannot take "normal" doses, and I've been very cautious ever since. I tell every doctor about it, and we start slow and build up only if needed. Usually, I do not need to do so. So, when my new pdoc said the dose of generic adderal that I was on was high, I was surprised. I take 10 mg, three times a day - one at @ 6 am; another @ 11:30 am; and the third @ 3 pm. This allows me to function through the day, and still sleep at night. My old pnurse who diagnosed me and started me on the generic adderal, started me on 10 mg once a day. Then, we added another 10 - one in the am; one in the pm, @ 12. But, I was still unable to function effectively after school; to do school required work and my home chores. That's when we added the third, and it's been working out well for me. But, she left for another job, and the new pdoc took over. He was surprised that my other doses of meds were so low, and said that the adderal was high. I asked him why that would be. I told him how it came to be, and how it's working for me. His answer was that I must have a "truly adhd brain that is using the meds as intended, and I must also metabolize it fast." So, my question to you is this. If you are on adderal, or the generic version of it, what dose are you on? Do you think 30 mg - spaced out at 10 mg, 3 times a day - is a high dose? My old pnurse never said anything. Neither did my regular doctor. Thanks for any input. Peace!

30 mgs is low IMO.
I used to take 60-75mg depending on the day. My husband takes 90mg. Is it just the generic form or the extended release? I've take both. When I was on the ER I took 30 mg in the morning and 30 mg around 1PM. If a medication is actually working for you, tell the new doc and be assertive. |

Thanks for answering. And I'm sorry I didn't get back sooner. I'm dealing with some construction workers at my house who are doing a terrible job! I had to fire them, and now it looks like I'm going to have to take them to court.
![]() The generic adderal is the extended release type. And I didn't think that was a large dose, which is why I came here to ask....What in the world is he talking about? I don't understand this at all... ![]() Please don't let him be unknowledgable... I can't deal with another thing on my plate... ![]() Does anyone else take, or have taken in the past, Adderal or it's genetic? If so, what were your doses for comparison? Thanks so much, Queen Accountant! ![]() Peace!

It sounds like you've got a lot of stressors going on right now...I'm so sorry. I hope things get better soon. I have 2 adult children who take Adderall. They both take 20 mg. of the extended release (I think this time it's name-brand, but sometimes it's been generic) in the morning. For a while, my 22 yo son was taking another dose of 20 mg. in the afternoon to help with studying, but he doesn't do that any more. He tries to maximize his time by studying between classes etc. He is able to do this in college in ways he wasn't able to do in high school. I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound as though you are on a high dose. Maybe he was only surprised because it was a "normal" dose compared to the small doses of everything else you are taking? I'm sending positive thoughts and warm hugs to you. ![]() ![]()
