I have been diagnosed with ADD at age 43. Any advice on controlling it? I take zoloft and xanax along with blood pressure meds and pain meds. This constant chatter in my head with the ocd is exhausting. My husband told me just to relax and clear my head. I told him that my mind didn't work that way, but there is something always going through my mind. I feel like I should where a t-shirt that says " I don't have AD oh look a bunny rabbit". All my husband could say is that must really suck. Thanks hun for the encouraging words. I am having problems with insomnia. I sleep for maybe an hour and then I am awake. My husband and I are trying to come up with some solutions for me.

I listened to a naturopathic doctor for an hour today... she spoke about the need for the enzyme phenylalanine! I can't believe all it can upset if it isn't present in the body in enough quantity.
One thing that caught my ear is that it can improve the symptoms of ADD/ADHD! (It also helps a person feel love and love others ![]() There's many things it helps with, so check it out if you wish. As for sleep, I use valerian, and passion flower (in much bigger quantities than the blends of 60 mg etc ) Be sure to check with your pharmacist or someone who can evaluate the meds you are on and herbals use. ![]()

I really appreciate the information. I am definitely going to look into it and discuss the herbal remedies with my druggist and doctor.

Interesting JD, about phenylalanine.
Non-dietary are complicated though and can interact really badly with meds and/or poison one: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/p...ine-000318.htm Have you tried all these, Faylowell? http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...cing_mind.html

Thanks Perna for the article. I am going to try them. When I was growing up, I played the radio all night to relax. It didn't bother my sister, but my husband needs quiet. A pair of headphones will do the trick. I appreciate all the advice. I need all the help I can get.

I find adderal to work better than ritalin or dexadrine. I take 20mg BID. You could tryless to start. As always discuss it with your doctor. I ended up seeing a specialist and they tell the doc what to give me. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that can help some people, then there is also Straterra, but that gave me hives. Good luck, work with your doc to dial it in

Wow, I can empathize, Look into mindfulness. Christian mindfulness if you are a believer and what a christian perspective. You can't sleep because you cannot shut your mind off. Mindfulness can help

There are many solutions to the chatter but some things don't work for every one. Some report positive effects of white noise machines. I find it very annoying lol. Also try getting involved in an activity that you enjoy. This makes you concentrate on the activity at hand and that can quiet the noise. Have you considered medication? That will help tremendously!

I've just been diagnosed myself at age 40. They started me on a free trial of Vyvanse, but I can't stay with it because of the cost. I feel more awake during the day and definitely not hungry, but even more spacey. And definitely more depressed, can't tell if it's the meds or the fact that I have ADD and my job prospects are even more limited.

hi
I do not have any answers because ADD for me was recently confirmed. Although In my heart I have known for years I am ADD. I thank everyone for what they have said. And JD thanks. I will speak with my naturopath about phenylalanine. In order to be considered for disability, the lawyer told me it would be best to be on a bunch of pharmaseutal (sp?)drugs. So I now take a list of rx pills, naturopathic and homeopathic things also. Good luck to all. |
