My son had not learned to swallow a pill and does not want to try.
His medication comes in a capsule and can be sprinkled. We need to see it all go in and down, not trying to trick him by mixing it into his food. We tried jam, fudge sauce and butterscotch sauce. These were OK but sometimes it spilled. We added melatonin to the evening routine, and it must be chewed. I bury it in about 1/2 teaspoon of Nutella. I've also been sprinkling his morning medication on a spoon spread with a small layer of Nutella. So, if your little person has no nut or dairy allergy, you may want to try Nutella to make the medicine go down. ![]() |

Thanks for the advice. My twenty year old niece has trouble swallowing a pill and has to use liquid alternatives as much as possible. Funny thing is that she graduates nursing school in April. I, also, have adult men friends who have problems swallowing pills, so I hope you don't mind if I share this with their wives who struggle with getting them to take medicine.

your fine as long as you give it to him in a form where he swallows it without chewing (nutella, applesauce, etc) and not in something he chews (cereal, toast, etc)

I've also found - online - a pill cup with a spout that guides you to swallow the pill and the liquid in a single motion.
With the nutella, he is not chewing when his focalin is sprinkled but he is chewing the chewable melatonin. For him, the flavor is most important. |
