I can't take meds for my ADD, inattentive type. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with ADD without meds?

I wish I knew. I can't take my meds either, sometimes I'll just take 1 in the morning and can't sleep all night. Can't go to work like that, so for now I just take it on a Friday sometimes, so I can always sleep in the next day.

Sometimes caffeine helps to level me out...sounds odd but it does work for some.

Happy on meds after coping for more than 50 years.
I am combined ADHD, and during those years the necessities were strict scedules, frequent breaks preferentially with some physical activity, and then back to work, , cooperation with others look for approaches that can catch my attention. For me it demanded lots of effort, but it worked |

i am afraid to take meds, afraid of side effects so i just suffer. i struggle and try real hard to act normal, i wonder if i'm fooling anybody. most people tell me they think i am so together and in charge, if they only knew how unsure i am of everything i say, wondering if i'm making any sense or saying the appropriate things..

Yeah i dont take mine, which sucks because i actually enjoyed them as i cant fall asleep if i dont use them. Anyways had this whole heart rate thing and had to stop using them so looked into some alternative routes. Found some topics on doctors using cannibus for younger patients in califonia. I wasnt a user ever before but have found it helpful especially in slowing my mind down enough to focus on one thought, and the sleepless nights are gone as well. If you live in a medical state look into it.

I took Concerta most of undergrad and 3/4 of grad school til I had to stop from the extreme stomach pain the concerta gave me. A doctor recommended the supplement phosphatidylserine + a ginko supplement. While it was no Concerta the supplement combined with a healthy diet and lots of yoga got me thru the remainder of grad school and I even graduated with honors and was nominated by my professors for several honor societies. Now that I am working full time I wish I could take concerta again but the side effects are too much- I just started on lomotrigine(lamictyl) for my bi-polar II and it really helps.

I use Citicoline and I feel like it helps. It's not medication, but a dietary supplement.

I find when I can't focus or my mind is racing I make myself a quick cup of tea. Sometime's I'll smoke a little weed but just a little to make it better, but if I get too high it makes it worse. I also try to work as much as possible, because my job is non-stop-on-the-go and stressful (I work as a server in a fancy restaurant, and I love my job) which keeps my mind from wandering too much and forces me to focus on something. I suggest trying to keep yourself stimulated, take up a sport of some sort and chose a job that keeps you on your toes. I find it hard to motivate myself to do those sort of things but I have my childhood friend to keep me going, and I find that I can function without meds pretty well. Unless it comes to like... school. If anyone has any tips on dealing with school and homework and whatnot, please let me know!

I tried it for about 8 years through various ways...i.e. Holistic, Spiritual, Physical/Social, etc. I've had some successes but overall, after years of trying to do it that way, I eventually reached out for help. I'm generally against meds, but..if it can help than after a while its worth looking into.
I just started tonight, so I cant really comment futher. I'll make sure to update as to if they really help or not. |
