Hi community,

A little about me - I'm a 25 year old man. I graduated from college but I'm starting to question if I have ADD, depression, OR some brain and cognitive problem. I know i have issues with annunciation of words. I find it sometimes I get on a roll and then a simple word will come out (may I say retarded)

The other night at dinner we were having a discussion and my gf was telling her family about a meal I made. She noticed I hadn't spoken much and was hoping I would join in. She prefaced the conversation with "made a great meal for me.. it was XXXX) she was like what did you put in it? and (later she told me) all I said was ummm chicken and ... i dont know. but the truth is i still couldnt give you a run down of how I made the recipe.. and I don't know if I have brain damage, ADD, depression, or am just lazy?

I think I need to see some one but I do not have health insurance. I'm not sure I want to be prescribed methamphetamine's like adderoll but maybe it would help.

I often thin my brain could use to be turned up just a few notches to get my mind to churn faster. Also I am exhausted alot. I do not think I have ADHD, but rather ADD.

No one here can help you with diagnosis. That is something you really do have to see a professional for, and that's what everyone else will say.

If you don't have insurance but are having problems that are distressing to you, it's worth saving up to see a psychiatrist and get some certainty about it. In the meantime, you can look for online quizzes (like the ones here on PC) that can help you get more of a handle on how likely it is that you might have any of these conditions and should seek help.

What you describe does not sound like ADD to me; inattention could be an issue but you haven't mentioned any of the most typical symptoms. Low cognitive function often comes with depression, but there's a lot more misery to it than that. Not likely brain damage unless you've had head trauma or extensively abused substances. It could be something more like Central Auditory Processing Disorder, but that's just a guess from a non-doctor - you might want to look it up and see how well you relate to the description of the symptoms.

Adderall is not a methamphetamine. It's a blend of amphetamine salts, none of which are methamphetamine. Methamphetamine (Desoxyn) is very rarely prescribed because of the very high risk of addiction and abuse.

There is also at least one non-stimulant medication for ADD, Strattera, but it is only available as a brand-name drug ($$$). If you have no insurance, the prescriptions are not cheap - I'm on the generic version of Adderall XR 15mg/day; without health benefits it would cost me $140/month retail.

Hi, I don't have an answer to the cause of your state of being, but I just wanted to let you know your not alone. I feel this way too. Everyone is different, my doctor says it is anxiety and not related to anything else. And honestly, I am having a difficult time accepting anxiety as being the sole reason for such a great disruption in my thoughts and life.

The only advice I can lend you is to see if you qualify for any medical care provided by your state or government. It is worth investigating.
Also, I was curious- have you talked about this with anyone in-person? Last thing you want to do is keep feelings bottled up inside.
It sounds like you're going through a difficult time. It is impossible to self-diagnosis. Organic causes should always be ruled out by professionals through tests, assessments and the evaluation symptoms. The biological possibilities are endless and there can be external factors at play. Anything is possible it could be nutritional deficits, an external stressor(s), or disease.

No matter what, don't give up on yourself! Try to tap into as many local resources that you can find, including your friends and family.
