I am studying anatomy and physiology right now and I am having trouble concentrating. To many rushing thoughts. What do you do to help you concentrate?

I have had the same problem in the past, and even now, I can't READ a book!
When I was taking classes, esp. those that required recovery of scientific content, I had to write things down, read it ALOUD, as in, SEE it, SAY it, repeat it. I have never been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, but I am sure I would fit the diagnosis. I'm 61, but even when I was in college back in the late '60's early '70's, I'd fall asleep trying to read texts, and long lectures were often tuned out from wandering thoughts, then fighting to stay awake. I know there are medications to help with this. Are you taking anything? I never have, and my attention condition has wavered often. |

I find sometimes I have to keep part of my brain busy with something else like listening to the radio or having the TV on in the background. Also writing notes in different colors helps. Good luck! I feel your pain

Study 'actively'. Make flashcards. Come up with questions and answer them. Draw diagrams. Doing active things when you study helps keep your mind from wandering.

Wow Midnight! I don't know anything about naturopathy but the rest of the stuff on your agenda seems like you're doing all the right things! I wish I had the drive to do that. One thought about the naturopathic route however. Would it be a good idea to consult an MD about the additives you're taking? I'm assuming that a regular family Doc didn't prescribe most of those. An MD might have a better idea about which ones are actually doing the right thing and in the right doses.
Anyway I have to congratulate you. Keeping ones physical health in good condition goes miles to promoting mental health. All the Docs recommend it and those lucky enough to be able to instill it into their lives will surely back that statement up. You sound like you may be fairly experienced with your health knowledge but if it were me I'd consult a medical doctor or pharmacist and ask his advice. Some biological compounds can have 'cointradictions' [that is to say: any reason that a drug should not be taken, including harmful interactions with other drugs and the individual's personal sensitivity and condition.] with other things you are taking and may cause some problems. You are doing well by the sounds of it. I mean no insult by questioning your naturopathic route but I have read articles in the past which have had people taking for example inproper doses of particular substances which have had problematic results. I wouldn't say I'm leery of naturopathic medicine but I myself after reading up on it on occasion would certainly double check with registered pharmacists at least before engaging on a mixed regimen of additives extracts etc. Oh hell...I ramble too much. What I'm suggesting Midnight is that if the concentration thing is recent perhaps it may be the naturopathic additives or the mixture and doses of. All plants contain drugs and many drugs interact with others in non beneficial ways. Just a thought. Keep 'er going....you have all my respect. All things, particularly good mental health benefit from good physical health. |

Hey Midnight...one more thought. Not to sound like a comedian but you sound like an extremely busy person. A valid question I have is....are you getting enough sleep? That can shut a brain down as well as any other reason. Cheers friend...again no offence.
