Was under immense strain in work by very demanding boss. Trying to keep al the balls in the air was next to impossible. Even with the use of a calendar and prioritization of tasks I was feeling the pressure. I also had a tendency to fly off the handle and snap at my partner. I would burn things on the cooker. I would become hyperfocused when using my ipad i would forget that i had to collect my kid from kindergarden and rush out like a headless chicken to try and get there on time. It is a huge hinderance in my life. I reckon most of my family suffer from it but there are totally in denial as i was until i had no choice to accept I had ADD. It is a very destructive mental illness. Yes....it is a mental disability. Ther eis no point in beating about the bush. I am currently taking 5HTP {100mg daily} and L-tyrosine. I feel a lot calmer and less inclined to rush in and make a pigs ear of things. I find it relaxes me but also kills my libido which is a bit of a bummer. I am looking for a new job. I am nervous as I have lost a lot of my self esteem as i went to hell and back in my last job. I am currently using lists and setting myself small tasks to help rebuild my confidence. Keen to know how others with Adult ADD are coping etc

I found that keeping an old fashioned spiral bound note pad and writing down the important things helped me to remember what I had to do. It works much better than typing things in on your phone. It may look a little flaky, but it's pretty effective. Sometimes a vitamin/mineral deficiency can exacerbate things. You should look into your diet and see what you're likely missing. Either work it into your diet or pick up some supplements.

Edit: Just noticed that you're from Ireland. Have you been checked to see if you're gluten-intolerant or celiac? The Irish have a higher incidence of gluten intolerance than most other groups. That can cause problems with attention and a lot of other health issues because it creates a situation where your body has a difficult time absorbing the nutrients it needs. A good portion of the people with celiac disease are unaware of the fact they have it.

My cell phone has a built in calendar and an alarm clock feature that are very useful. The calendar will sound an alarm that will keep repeating until I hit the silence button.
Thanks for this!

I've heard many suggestions to write things down, to journal, etc. But I always either forget to write in it, or I misplace it. I've tried using a hand held calendar and an online calendar [or two], but then I'd write in one and not the other... How do you cope with this?

The problem I'd run into with something like that is that they wouldn't let me have my phone at work. The spiral bound notebook wasn't a problem though.

If you've got a smartphone it probably is the best thing to put everything in, although if you have a tendency to misplace it I can see where that might be an issue. If you don't have a smartphone you could probably pick up an older one on Ebay for less than $100. It doesn't have to be up to date if you just want to use the calendar and alarms. When I write stuff down it's more for putting it into long term memory rather than having it to look at later. For some reason going through the effort of writing things out helps in that regard. If you misplace your notebook just write something important on any old piece of paper. Maybe it will help with your recollection later.

Like you say, it is hard to do the things that help out. I tried writing in a journal, it seemed to work, that is when I could find the damn thing. I know when people suggest things they have your greatest interests most of the time and it is not there fault you can be a scatter, but sometimes I feel some of the things I have had suggested to me. Is like asking me to look left and right at the same time. Nearly impossible. I need a clone of myself minus the add who can follow me around and give me little pokes or keep me on track when I stray off the path.

Oh yeah this post is pretty much useless. Just one of my endless daily rambles with no nutritional value. lol.

My best friends have always had ADHD. I guess that is the type I like to hang out with. Something I notice is their total hyperfocus around screens. Can be TV or a game (or phone). Is there a magic light coming out of them or what?

I actually ask in all seriousness.
