just got in from the Dr. looks like I have adult adhd, it all adds up now. With all th emotions and frustration of lost projects, smiles, and generaly good times, replaced with racing thoughts, feeling lost and out of place, not sleeping, losing trac at work etc. My question to you all is this: If and when I go on meds. does this really help? It almost like im looking for a high, maybe not a high but a shelf higher than the one im currently on. Do the meds make you feel normal again?

Congrats on going to the dr. I am new on the ADD journey. I was only officially diagnosed a few weeks ago. But so far it is the best thing I have ever done.

I am on 60 mg strattera in the am and 40 mg afternoon. I am still me, still the same personality, but just a better me. I can focus so much better. I am much less impulsive. Much calmer. I feel WONDERFUL!!! I think so much clearer, I get so much more done rather than lots of things half done.

This is the 2nd med I have been on. The first was Clonidine and in my opinion was made by SATAN! At least from the side effects I had, but I know everyone is different.

So to answer your question, I do not feel high at all. I just feel like I have more control over myself and my thoughts. It is great!

Best of Luck to You!

lostdad, I take a very slow acting stimulant (Vyvanse) and Wellbutrin as well for my ADHD-like sympoms. Wellbutrin helped somewhat on its own, but then we added the Vyvanse and that helped even more. I never feel high from either of these meds. I don't get any sort of buzz. I don't feel any withdrawal (e.g. headache, craving) if I don't take the Vyvanse for a couple of days. I just feel not as functional. Some people do develop an addiction to stimulants, especially the fast acting ones. By now in your life, you probably know if you tend to get addicted to things (e.g. caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol, painkillers) so you will know if you have addictive tendencies. I do not, and feel lucky, and taking stimulants has not been addicting either. If you do have addictive tendencies, please share that with your doc before getting a prescription for ADHD. It might influence the type of med you are prescribed.
