I have probably had ADD for some time now. I was prescribed Concerta back 12 years ago. It worked initially and eventually stopped working. I gave up and totally stopped any treatment. I think the condition always bothered me, I was just able to suppress it better. I also think I was better able to compensate for my condition. Just recently, within the past 6 months to a year my ADD has been unbearable. So I sought treatment from a therapist for some depression and a psychiatrist for ADD medication management. I opted for the concerta again and it worked initially and stopped working. I am currently taking Focalin, I really don't like it that much. It makes me feel terrible and it doesn't give me a feeling of focus. So now I wonder if a non stimulant would be the way to go. I also read the thread about Vyvanse so maybe that as well. I need to find another doctor to manage my medication. The practice I go to is closing. It doesn't appear she is going on her own. I am thinking of asking my neurologist to manage the meds. I would appreciate any medication suggestions. I am sure there a vast amount of knowledge on this subject here on this forum. Thanks taking the time to read my tread.

Welcome bmadden68!

If you want a formal welcome to PC with some great tips for navigating this site, post as a newly joined member in the New Introductions forum and community liaisons will give you a warm welcome and great info for exploring the different forums.

I also have ADHD. I was newly diagnosed in later life so my experience with stimulants will be different as my metabolism is slower now. I have tried Ritalin immediate release and didn't like it. It made me feel edgy but without too much focus help. You mentioned Concerta as that is the longer acting Ritalin I believe. My doc switched me over to Adderall XR but the dosage was too high and it made me hyper focus to much. So now I am on Adderall immediate release and I take it two times a day and I am doing Ok. I have never tried Strattera or wellbutrin or any of the other meds for ADD.
I think a new doc should allow you to experiment with the meds so you can find the right med for you. Vyvance has a good reputation but I have never tried it. Ask your new doc for a different med as he or she should be open to this.

Take care

I've had ADD most my life and been on several meds. When I had insurance I had a neurologist and psychiatrist. The neurologist seemed to have a better understanding of the meds and what was going on in my head. Asking your neurologist sounds like a good idea. However, he/she may want you to get a psychiatrist to monitor and prescribe your symptoms over the long haul. Basically, my neurologist acted as a consultant for my psychiatrist.
