Hi,

I just had an adhd assessment. I have not received results yet, but the man said I have really advanced "metacognition" and working memory. I don't know what that means, but would it not mean that I do not have an attention disorder?

I am in my 30s and have had problems with procrastination and taking a million years to do everything, uneven moods, anxiety, inability to study, interrupting, being "random," digressing, insomnia, falling asleep after drinking coffee (weird, I know), being unable to focus, etc. I also am nearly incapable of making a decision between anything. There are just so many variables!

I also have felt extremely bored and lonely while socializing, so I like to avoid doing it. And I am very maladjusted to change. And was born really early.

A lot of people in my family have attention disorders and addictions , etc, but they all have poor impulse control and do not think ahead.

I've rarely done an impulsive thing in my life. I deliberate every choice. I need routine and control or I feel mentally foggy and all over the place.

Does anyone know what this all is? I just want to figure it out and be different so I don't have to feel this way anymore. I want to be able to connect to people like a normal person and not feel like I am watching life happen through a second story window.

Thanks for reading, and responding, if you have time.

hi egwene
just because you understand how you think and have a good memory doesn't mean you wouldn't have adhd. lots of really bright people have adhd and that is why it goes undiagnosed and they suffer for so long. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

I have a lot of the same symptoms as you and I have been diagnosed with ADHD. My biggest problems are lack of focus and taking forever to finish things. I also need routine to try to stay organized. I think you're on the right track with this testing.
