I feel so frustrated right now. I am not stupid, but I can't seem to take in things. I done a course at college 4yrs ago and did ok, but I can't afford to continue at college but have a yearning to learn.

I enrolled for a on-line learning course and I pulled the page u and .........blank, I just go blank, I can't read slowly to follow the instructions, my eyes try to take it all in, in one go.

If someone stood in front of me and gave me tasks, I can do that, but to have to read and follow instructions, I just can't do it, its like theres a mental block.

I suffer from a degree of Fetal alcohol effect (not syndrome) as well and wonder if this is how it will be for life??

Has anyone else faced this problem? How have others approached learning?

I feel destined to be stuck exactly where I am for life.

Would it help to print out the page and tackle it sentence by sentence, maybe putting each sentence in your own words/commands? How about reading some of it aloud into a recorder (or your computer)? If someone tells you instructions you say you can learn them; maybe that will work for your to "tell" the page.

There's lots of courses on CD? If I were going to do a computer course in your situation, I'd find one with numbered "lists" of things to learn/do?

I had to redo a lesson once and was bored and thought I'd covered it all, etc. so I took the lesson and converted it into poetry! Took me 10+ hours for a little 1-hour exercise but hey, I really learned that lesson! :-) Convert the words to something else you understand better; find "different" symbols that work better for you than written words?

Thanks Perna. Talking into a recorder actually makes a lot of sense to me.
