Hi all

I’m posting for the first time about my 24 year old son just diagnosed with ADD finally. I won’t go into all the problems being undiagnosed has presented as I am sure you can all understand. He is on 45mg Mirtazapine for anxiety and has been on these for a few months now and just starting out on 5mg Methylphenidate and titration has he has been told to do.

The psychiatrist believes the anxiety might be ADD related.

I have pushed, pulled, cried but got him an education and he is in his first year at university but struggled through the first 2 semesters....my question!

Will the add meds help significantly with his study? I can see a big difference in him but he isn’t sure if the pills are working yet.

Many thanks guys

I am glad your son has been diagnosed and is being treated by a professional.

The response to medications is very individualized. Some people respond well to methylphenidate, some need to try alternative meds.

Happy to see a pro-active parent, advocating for a child.

Thank you for the positive replies, it’s a fine line parenting and interfering when you know something isn’t quite right and being labelled a helicopter mum!
My instinct was to not give up on him until we had a professional opinion. We are both thankful to have a diagnosis and to know it was not down to him being ‘just him’ as my son would say.
