hello everyone, i am new to this group. i am wondering if anyone has any resources/links for me to read more on asperger syndrome? i took a quiz on ] (really good quiz) and i likely have high levels of aspie.
the questions they ask is what ive been experiencing all my life. growing up, i knew something was wrong with my learning ability. i had teachers who wanted to put me in a special class without even testing for at least ADD/ADHD or dyslexia. of course, nobody ever heard of asperger in the 90s. my own parents felt those learning disability test were a way of "keeping the black ppl down and the school used it for their own purpose." just stupid **** that came out of their mouths mostly my mothers'. i had teachers who were very impatient with me always left it into arguments between them of me being punished or them calling my mom to explain. i told my mom how i was being treated by the teacher all she told the teacher on the phone (never went up to the school) how if she talked to me slowly and let me learn, then i can do it. i told one teacher i believe i have a learning disability issue and this teacher disregarded it and she said something i said how do u know? u dont know what i go through when studying/reading any material(s) and how frustrating i am at it. the teacher got mad when i said that i said its the true ur brain isnt mine! it got worse in college my grades were average not albert einstein. im 26 and still have a problem with doing anything. the quiz i took was really interesting i have been rereading the results and would like to take it a "shrink." the problem is i have no job still looking for a job. state insurance is so ****ed up and confusing they cut out everything almost everything since obama got in office. god who knows what the state insurance will pay and won't pay! when i was in college, they didn't have a psychological testing center to test any learning disablities u had to do that out of ur own pocket outside of school. i've been out of college for 2 yrs now and it is driving me crazy... |

no quiz can tell you that. Diagnozing aspergers is very difficult and only can be done by specialists. All people have some autistic traits but that is not how it is diagnosed. Also everybody scores high on those tests. Especially people with more logical thinking, scientists and artists. If you have a problem in your present life and you think it is because of mental condition, do not diagnose yourself. I've made that mistake few times already. Just talk to your doctor.

Which quiz did you do? Eg. AQ, RDOS(This one is for entertainment), RAADS-R, etc...
Quizzes or questionnaires are used to screen, not diagnose. They are also good for getting a history, and identifying behaviours/thinking, that may or may not be causing difficulty. Early childhood development has to be included in the assessment. Autistic traits are usually evident in the first few years of life. A psychiatrist, psychologist and neuropsychologist can make an Asperger diagnosis. Some people don't bother and diagnose themselves based on internet quizzes. Note: There is a resource thread at the top, just above the listed threads on the forum's page. |

i was just asking could this be a possibility? all of those quiz questions are almost the same questions they ask for ADD/ADHD what's your point? i felt the quiz was interesting i think it was made up by an actually doctor not someone who's the average joe who came up with silly questions. i've taken quizzes through webmd.com a medical site. like i said before, my idiot parents never took me to get tested when i was growing up. past k-12 teachers as well as college instructors have said i have a problem and need to get checked. i knew i had a problem at age 10! teachers have said my speech was terrible my parents refused to sign paperwork to help me pronounce words correctly. i had teachers all my life who felt i needed to be in a special class yet wouldn't test me for learning disabilities it was just for the money on their end. college didn't test you because they didn't cover that for students and was told to go outside of college to get tested. hence is why i am doing this all by myself! |

Sorry, I upset you. I just want to help, but cannot really tell if you want it or not. Well...I will try.
My post did not accuse you of self diagnosis via an internet quiz. All, I did was state information about the tests and how they are used. I just wanted to include self diagnosis as additional information, since many adults do this and are fine with it. While, some people want a formal diagnosis for: education and/or employment purposes; support services; better self understanding; improving relationships; validation, etc... You need to read up on Asperger Syndrome (AS). It is possible to have ADD/ADHD with AS. Sometimes, people are misdiagnosed with this condition before they are correctly diagnosed. Bring the quiz (preferably the AQ) that you did to your appointment. Tell that doctor why you think you have AS and be specific. Get your childhood development history, if you can. AS can be difficult to diagnose, so knowing that history can help determine if you have it or not. RDOS is an interesting test. I have done it. Unfortunately, it is not accepted as a valid testing instrument. Last edited by Anonymous32715; Jul 02, 2012 at 08:22 PM. Reason: grammar |

Aspurgers symptoms in children are very different from symptoms in adults. To get more acurate result make sure it is geared towards adults. Aspurgers is more of a social delay then one related to learning style. I have dyslexia dysnomia, and ADD. My 12 yr old son has aspurgers though. Certinly check with a licenced professional. It is often hereditary. Though names were not around for such things look for odd behavior styles, repeitive behaviors, difficulty in communications (saying the wrong thing at the wrong time) Many aspurger folk lead successfull lives. They are often in jobs where great orginization is a asset. A Libraryian, often in court and judicial system, business owners. It's not a sentence it 's often a gift. It's all in how you look at it. If we all medicated every mental illness we had what a boring place this would be. Instead we have savants, asphurgers, ADD, the list could go on and on.

to be quite honest, this sound more like ADHD or ADD, in my opinion. I have apergers and im rather high on the scale. :/ People here can now really dx you. As i have been told for other vaiose things. If you contact you gp im sure they can help you get dx if that is what you want. maybe you ould tell up more about yourself which may help us gather weather you may or may not have it? But we can not give you a dx ourselves. dissapointing i know. we are not actuall y here for aspergers but if you feel the need to ask questions or what ever people like to do : P feel free to drop us a pm/comment take care - atrus
