Hi,
My brother has been looking for a job for over a year now, and has really been struggling. He doesn't currently have any work experience, except one job who fired him due to poor customer service. He is funny and intelligent, and has a Bachelor in film, but is really struggling to land his first job. There are lots of aspects that would come into play. The job market is tough. But I think one challenge is the difficulty socially, with social skills, from aspergers - for interviews, cover letters, and also finding relevant jobs that aren't too socially demanding. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for aspergers-friendly entry level jobs? Or ways to approach the job market with aspergers? I'm curious about what has / hasn't worked for others. Thank you. ![]()

My suggestion is to find work that interests your brother and uses his strengths.
What is your brother interested in besides film? What are his talents? An employment agency that focuses on clients with disabilities may help. They could help with resume writing and interviews. These places usually offer vocational testing. It is very possible to find work that doesn't involve customer service. I tried that type of work when I was younger. It didn't work out at all, so I avoided looking for that type of work. Eventually I found work that actually fit me. Now I work in a trade that doesn't require a lot of interaction with the public. It does require working with others, which I don't mind at all.

I think something where he can work independently and not would people would be good.

I'm now a land surveyor, and i love the work and pay. Its a low stress job where you mainly work by yourself. You do have to get some training though, which the job requires. Look into it..
good luck

I am actively recruiting people on the artistic spectrum in the UK, and although I realise you live in Australia, please PM me and I'll tell you more if you're interested. We have recently appointed 2 people and they have been a fantastic success. It is such a wonderful feeling to help others in the MI community. They are rapidly becoming indispensable!

I have aspergers, and I have a job in retail but in the receiving department. For the most part I have no customer contact and I work in the back not on the sales floor, and I only work with 5-6 other people. It's great for both my autism and my anxiety. Along with my physical health too which then makes my self esteem great. So in general I'm a very happy person.
