I was recently diagnosed and put on Lamictal and Seroquel as needed. I took 50mg of Seroquel and after a short time had a racing heart, felt clouded, shaky, and my arms fell asleep for a few hours. The medication did nothing for my mood. Is this an unusual reaction?

You should call your pdoc about it before you take it again, especially since it is an "as needed" medication.

I would definitely call. I didn't have those side effects but I did notice it took me a few weeks of consistently taking it before I felt any results. For me it ended up not being the best choice and I had a LOT of weight gain that almost a year later I am trying to get rid of.

According to this website: http://health.yahoo.com/mentalhealth...-d04220a1.html those are serious side effects. Do not take the Seroquel again until you have talked to a doctor. Let us know how you are doing!

I am on seroquel and lamictal as well. My doc started me with 25 mgs of seroquel but put that I can take up to 2 tabs as needed. I only take one. When I tried taking 2, not only did I have similar side effects but when I did fall asleep, I slept for 15 hours. Not good when u have a 1 year old. Luckily I had family living with me at the time. You might want to call ur doc asap and ask if she could give you the lower dosage. How everything works out for you.

I had side effects like that, and even a bit more exaggerated when I tried Respiradone, I rang the doctor and I was told to stop it immediately..Then I was put on 25mg seroquel and slowly built it up to 100mg. I took a couple of months to see significant improvement but now I do feel a lot better and even though I sometimes I have problems of inexplicable drowsiness (a side effect that hasn't worn off as the others) I wouldn't change the drug as it seems to be the lesser of all evils.
But you need to find what works for you, and even though every drug has side effects that in the first few weeks are rather annoying and/or troublesome, you shouldn't have to put up with anything that is listed as severe or anything that you can't handle..

I don't like that I am putting on weight with Seroquel, but every time I stopped it I would get borderline psychosis symptoms. I had to put two and two together to come up with that, because I was prescribed Seroquel at 25mg for sleep as needed. When I was sleeping well, I went off it and then would start in with my paranoia and delusions. I am now up to 100mg per night and in conjunction with my other meds, I have been balanced for the first time in so long. Of course, this has only been for a few days, but I'll gladly take it. Now, if I can just do something about the weight...

Please discuss with your doctor the risks associated with Seroquel. According to the psychopharmacologist that I consult regarding my research projects, 300 mg per day is the minimum effective dosage as an ANTIPSYCHOTIC. Anything less, it is being used more as a tranquilizer that lessens the impact extreme mood states. Astra-Zeneca first marketed Seroquel with a graphic of a bulls eye with a 600 in the middle, suggesting that the ideal dose would be 600 mg. At one point early in my recovery, I was on 800 mg per day (can you say FAT ZOMBIE!!!!) I switched meds, lost the weight was doing great until a rather impulsive suicide attempt. In the hospital, they switched me back to Seroquel at 300 mg. In just the two months until I saw my psychiatrist again, I gained 35 pounds and developed diabetes meliatus. It turns out that Seroquel carries a very high correlation between usage and incidence of diabetes II. My Pdoc will not even prescribe it anymore. The psychopharmacologist told me that those who normally carry a few extra pounds are the population of Seroquel users that most likely will develop diabetes. He often recommends to Pdocs that they try their patients on Geodon which tends to be a lot more weight neutral.
Hope this helps, but yes, stop taking Seroquel until you are able to speak to at least a psych nurse at your clinic regarding the side effects before you continue treatment with this medication, N2BD.

I had the same side effects with Seroquel, not only did I balloon, but felt no different at all. What worked very well for me was Lamictal and Clonepan, though i have been taking Clonepan now for over 9 years.

I looked up Clonepan (curious I guess) and didn't find it. Sure you don't mean Klonopin?

I've been taking 600mg of Seroquel at night for about 3 years and I absolutely love it!! I have no side effects and I think it's the best thing I take. I have really bad insomnia so it's a miracle drug for me!

What is Seroquel usually prescribed for? I'm on Lamictin, which doesn't seem to be helping me at ALL regarding the depression. At the moment I'm having to rely on Klonopin to numb myself when I get depressed (I know, not ideal!)
If Seroquel can help in any way, I'm more than keen to try it.

Seroquel is an antipsychotic. As lower doses, it is often prescribed for sleep.
