I have been researching meds&I have decided I might like to try any of those. Who has taken any of these? What side effects have you noticed? I'm actually getting excited about my appointment tomorrow. I just want to stop feeling this way!

Seroquel made me a zombie, Wellbutrin made my heart race, and Abilify was perfect for me. Abilify was the only one I didn't have any side effects on but it wasn't very effective for me.

I take them all. Seroquel is the only one that has a really strong tranquilizing effect; my wife calls it Slurr-O-Quel. Seroquel also can lead to diabetes and other fun stuff. I however can't live without it.

Have you thought of Lamictal or Geodon? I take both and they work very well for me. I have had no side effects from either one. But some do report side effects from both.

Hi there,

Seroquel has really helped me. I used to be on the instant release (Seroquel IR) which made me too tired, so I switched to the extended release (Seroquel XR). It helps with calming my anxiety (I don't have panic attacks anymore), helps get rid of most of my hallucinations, and helps prevent a full-blown manic episode. I'm on 600mg of the Seroquel XR.

Side Effects I've had: Poor vision (can't read things from a distance too well), Restless Leg Syndrome (this only lasted for a week or so), increased appetite, and slight tiredness.

Best of luck to you in finding the right medication for you!

I'm on seroquel only every other night for sleep, I was severely allergic to wellbutrin, and abilify didn't work for me...sorry I'm not much help on this one! Best of luck to you!

I'm backwards from one of the other posts- Abilify made me feel like a zombie, with no emotions, and I drooled in my sleep. Seroquel made my heart race and made me dizzy, until my doctor put me on the extended release. Now I'm doing great, and feel almost "normal".

The Seroquel and Abilify are mood stabilizers/anti-psychotics, but Wellbutrin I'm pretty sure is simply an anti-depressant. I've read some places that anti-depresssants can be harmful for bipolar, though if your depressions are way worse than your manias (Bipolar II), sometimes the doctor will put you on a combination of the two. Years ago I tried Wellbutrin, and it did absolutely nothing.

Everyone responds to medication differently. Unfortunately, psychotropics are a trial-and-error process. I really wish the pharmaceutical companies would stop advertising to patients. We may know our own moods better than the doctors, but we don't know the medicines as well as the doctor does (until after we've tried them). The commercials show these happy, smiling people and try to convince us to pressure our doctors for something that may not be right for us.

Tell your doctor of all of your symptoms in detail, and any effects of medicines you have tried, then let the doctor prescribe. I hope for you that the next one you try is the right one for you, but also remember that mood disorders are never cured, and you still may have some "sick" days, even if the medicine is working. Good luck.

I went today to see a BHS who then sent me to a crisis care place so I could get started on meds. Saw a psychiatrist&he says I am BP1. I'm starting@25mg of lamictal&in a week it'll be50mg &then2weeks after that its up to100mg. Also have clonazepam for anxiety. Took 1dose and already feeling like my brain is not all manic. Or depressed. But I'm not a zombie either. Hopefully this gets better from here on out. Waiting to start an antidepressant till after we see if the lamictal will help most of my probs. But for now 2 meds is enough.

Abilify works wonders for me. I take Welbutrin, too, it helps. I was on Seroquel at one point years ago, but I didn't like it and I think I gained weight from it. Zyprexa was a HUGE weight gainer for me.

Well, abilify is an antipsychotic while wellbutrin and seroqel are antidepressants. They do different things (theoretically).

Seroquel made me sleep up to 14 hours a day. I was comatose and constantly depressed. Abilify made my heart race and I was anxious round the clock. I was in a manic episode when I was put on it, so that may have influenced my reaction to it. Wellbutrin seemed to do nothing for me, but if I was on too high a dose (300mg) it also made my heart race and caused anxiety. What is currently helping me, although not completely, is Geodon. All the other anti-psychotics have had negative side effects worse than it. But everyone is different as you can see from other people's posts. It's best to talk to a professional and go through the trial and error process, which can't be avoided, as frustrating as it is.

I just came off of Seroquel. It was making me gain weight and excessively sweat! I take Lamictal and I love it. It has helped me more than other meds and believe me I have been on a lot!

Actually, Seroquel is a mood stabilizer/atypical antipsychotic, but with the specialty of treating bipolar depression. You're right about Wellbutrin, though, it is an anti-depressant and also used as a stop smoking aid (didn't work for me- I still smoked 2 packs a day while on it, and it did nothing for my depression).

Seroquel did me wonders. I loved taking them because they would hardcore knock my *** out when I needed it. Shortly after i started taking it though I started hearing things and having "delusions" again. I can't remember why they didn't just adjust the dose. I think it was because I couldn't eat or something like that.

Abilify gave me that muscle thing where your muslces go crazy. I was shaking uncontrollably like I was shivering and my neck would crane out of my control. Very painful. Only took those for three days.

Welbutrin made me very angry and numb. The first week I took them they seemed to hlep but after that nothing.

I tried them all, the only one that has worked is Seroquel for me. Depends on the person, though
