I have been having distructive behaviour lately when I argue with my bo, we never injure each other, infact he is a saint. I get angry and feel the need to break something. I have distroyed a canvas painting and a lamp. Is this distructive behaviour something common with bi polar or do I need anger managment?

I have not broken anything before, but I definitely have gotten overly angry over something when I have been hypomanic. Perhaps you may want to speak to a therapist who could help you with some coping skills?

Before I went on meds, my fuse was so short. I would slam doors, kick walls, and break things over the smallest of issues. Between meds and therapy, I am able to recognize when I am becoming angry without it escalating to destructive behavior.

I don't know if you are on meds, or see a therapist, but both are very helpful.

Anger Management can always help, otherwise you might end up destroying something you will regret losing, including loved ones.
Thanks for this!

Bipolar meds have really helped with my anger, and therapy as well. I told my pdoc about it and the bipolar mood stabilizer meds really help. Now I can control myself, and I rarely lose my temper. And I used to punch and kick the walls, and hurt myself. I haven't done that in over 2 years.

distructive behaviour

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Oh solocarolina, I soooo hear you! And have broken and destroyed far more-- things, not people, but still... I think it is often about impulse control, which can be a big problem for BPers, but the low impulse control impacts many other issues as well. (On the rage front, it would be like a big white lightning flash that I often couldn't even see coming, so counting to 10 etc? Not even time to think of it and couldn't stop till it exhausted me.) My meds have been a big help for me in this regard, but not the way to go if there is something else going on.

Have you been diagnosed? If not, it may well be an anger management thing. Rage is not diagnostic for BP, so be sure not to assume that's what is at work here.
Thanks for this!
