Well, this is not about bipolar, but I have to get it off my chest. I wear dentures. I also did (until this week) take generic Fosamax. I was gonna get implants so I could eat better. I couldn't take the implants so I had the dentist take them out.
Anyway long story short. I had a sore in my mouth that wouldn't heal. Usually a sore heals in 2-3 days. This one had been in my mouth 1 1/2 months. I called my dentist and he was out of town and was referred to a really good oral sergeon.
He looked at my mouth. He put an instrument on the sore. I came out of the seat. He did it again. Then he asked me if I took Fosamax. I said yes.
He said I have osteonecronis of the jaw. That means that the place in my jaw I thought was a sore spot is dead. And it was caused by taking Fosamax. He gave me a scrip for antibiotics & some mouthwash and I go back in a week.
I talked to a lawyer. There are a lot of lawsuits out there about this. People getting disfigured and such. Breaking bones, too. But I am out of luck. I did not take the right brand. I took generic instead of the Merck brand of Fosamax.
I hope it doesn't spread. I couldn't find any info on that.
I'm sorry. I am bipolar. I have to vent. And here's where I vent I guess.
When you get old and they tell you you have osteoporosis, take Evista. It doesn't have the ingredients that Fosamax, Boniva and Actonel do.
Thanks for listening.

That's crazy. Shouldn't there be a lawsuit against the generic as well? Will the antibiotics help it?

My husband has one implanted tooth. Last year it fell out, so he had to walk around with the metal post sticking out. Best part, is that it was the top right front tooth, so it looked really weird.

Hope you feel better.

Naw, see there are so many little companies now making meds. And the pharmacies get one brand one month and another brand another month. And Merck is the one with the money so they are the only one's the lawyers are going after. Oh, the lawyer was quite nice to me, but that was the bottom line. That's been my luck all my life. The pdocs when I went psychotic manic but me on Haldol and it took 16 years to get off of it. And I have to live with the side effects that don't go away either. Sorry. I'm really kinda laughing about. I guess. I just hope it doesnt' spread all over my lower jaw.

I don't even know what to say. I wish you could sue. It wouldn't make the situation any better for you, per se, but still....

So many meds, so many bad bad problems.

I hope something good can come out of this for you. Update us?

Holy cow, owllover99! That just sucks. Whether it's bipolar-specific or not, we're all in this together, and care about you very much, so no worries on the "it's not bipolar" front. Wow. Just wow. Keep us posted, ok?
(Trippin... "arse clowns"??? LOL. On Father Ted one time, "arse biscuits" was said, and just about slayed me... funny expressions, but seriously, what else to make of these... these... entities to which language barely expresses their lack of humanity?)

My next appt with the oral surgeon is the 10th . I should know something then. But what I researched I found there ain't much can be done about it. I'm just glad it's not my leg. I guess. I just hope it doesn't spread. I may be fat, but I do need to eat.

owllover. The 10th is a long awaited appointment day for me too, so I'll be in "appointment mind" and will definitely be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes, ok?

Well Innerzone, how are you? I'm at work for the next hour and I sure don't feel like working. And my left side of my mouth hurts (that's where the "sore" spot or whatever is there is). One good thing is I have a T appt 2 hours after the Oral Surgeon appt. I can get this off my chest. Thankfully, I have a good T. My husband listens decently too, but it's always good to have a T. Oh, my attitude! Well, we will see. I'll let you know tomorrow.

That's a busy day, owllover! How did your appointments go? (Of course you can say tomorrow, as is your plan! )
My PMHNP appt. went well. Once I got there, lol! Got lost and had a pretty major shaking freak out. I was just thinking about what to write about it. But it was good. It is such a relief to have something in place at long last.

The oral surgeon said I'm a lot better. But I can't chew on that side. I have to go back in 2 months. I go to my regular dentist the 17th. And I'm gonna let him know about it. Well, I'm glad I'm better. But it's hard to eat. Thanks for all your encouragement.

Well, I have a new sore. On the other side of my mouth. I couldn't get ahold of my oral surgeon so I called my dentist and they called the meds in friday. I go to them after work tomorrow for fitting for new dentures (ouch!). I called this morning and will see my oral surgeon Thurs. after work. Sorry, but this really bums me out. And I have to wear my dentures at work. And it hurts to wear my bottom denture. Let alone eat anything. At least my husband don't care if I go without my dentures at home. Like Mick Jagger said "What a drag it is getting old" (the song is called Mother's Little Helper for all you young people). Thank you all for listening.

owllover! It's totally understandable that this bums you out. Hope they can make it somehow better for you...

(Hehe, yeah, I have to explain some of my references too. I read a thing once about how people born after a certain year (can't remember which one they chose) don't know blah blah blah -- a list they had (except of course through reading, just not experience) It made perfect sense of course, but still seemed amazing for some reason(!) Silly of course because it's the same for everyone, except for the very oldest.)
