Hi--
My fifteen year old daughter is on seroquel and lithium. She still has swings from mania to anger to depression a few days a week (the swing occurs within a hour). She's in the bathroom now coming off of a rant after prancing around the house giddy an hour earlier. Is either of these drugs supposed to help control these swings? I'm at a loss and she's still suffering. |

I think from your previous posts your daughter was just diagnosed and recently went through a med change? If that is the case it can take some time to find the right med combo and/or dosage. Lithium levels can be determined through blood work. The pdoc should be having her blood drawn to determine if the dosage is in a therapeutic range. I would also suggest tracking her mood if she's not willing to do it herself. A great online tracker is at http://www.medhelp.org/land/mood-tracker
Perhaps you could monitor what she's eating, drinking, and any outside triggers (stress, schedule changes etc.). Food and mood do have a connection and a great book on this topic is the The Food Mood Solution by Jack Challem. I'm assuming that you ensure she's taking her meds as prescribed? It does take patience to find the right med combo etc., but the pdoc should still be made aware of what's going on. I hope your daughter finds some peace soon.
