I wake up nearly every morning depressed, drained, and lethargic. When my alarm goes off all I can think about is going back to sleep. Sometimes, on my days off from work, this leads to oversleeping (I will sometimes sleep for 14 hours). When I finally do get up I am a zombie for several hours.
At night I am usually the opposite; Tons of energy, racing thoughts...
I have rapid cycling bipolar II (extremely rapid) and 95% of my hypomanic episodes occur in the evening or at night.
Anyone else experience this?
Trazodone has helped me get to sleep at night but no antidepressant has gotten rid of my morning depression.
What has worked for you?

It's common to hsve sleep time issues. I got my sleep way out of synch- going to bed at 3 and up at noon. Sounds like the issue you might be having.

I will not fall asleep before midnight, not matter how soon I do have to get up. My ideal sleeping schedule would be 3:00AM - 10:00 to 11:00 AM. So at normal day i wake up tired, that wake up a bit, try slowing down around 4:00 PM... than I start getting my energy back at 8:00PM.

I am afraid there is no way to change this, it's a biorythm;(

Wellbutrin is good as a stimulant. I also found Trazodone to help me with anxiety and sleep issues.

I found many anti-depressants made me tired, until I tried Wellbutrin.

I am the exact same.... no matter how much sleep I get I feel depressed in the morning. All of what you have said jshetc. I get majorly hyper at night despite being extremely sleepy and lethargic throughout the day. No matter what I do. It always end in me being hyper/manic.
Thanks for this!

Winston Churchill was bipolar and this was his schedule during the war: get up at noon, order a few bombing runs, have lunch, take a nap, work a couple hours, have dinner, then work nonstop from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. THAT'S the bipolar schedule.
Thanks for this!

Yeah I'm kind of the same way. Definitely night owl. It is a bit of a problem getting up for classes sometimes because I stay up so late. When I get really off schedule, I take a sleeping aide that helps me get back on track

I wake up nearly every morning depressed, drained, and lethargic. As do I
When my alarm goes off all I can think about is going back to sleep. All I can think about is getting a few more minutes, I feel SO TIRED!
Sometimes, on my days off from work, this leads to oversleeping (I will sometimes sleep for 14 hours). When I finally do get up I am a zombie for several hours. I feel exactly the same way I never feel rested.
At night I am usually the opposite; At night I feel guilty for wasting the day and try to accomplish anything. I can't sleep until I clean or work on something.
Anyone else experience this? I do.
What has worked for you? I am searching for that answer too. I literally walk around work like a zombie, no matter how much sleep I get! I have even fallen asleep at work on several occasions. My body feels drained my mind feels lost.
I too look forward to hearing any advice.
Thanks So much!

Jschect, in a word, yes. I have far more energy in the night as a rule. Except on those occasions when I go to sleep simply because I can't stand another minute of myself, my engines hit GO when everyone else thinks the day is over. I've been working on it, somewhat succesfully, but it's not my nature.

OOOOooohhh, so THAT's why I do that. I thought it was because I spent too many years working night shift.

Anyway, those 5 hour energy shots help me. They don't really get me up and going, but they help me get and keep going, and after they wear off, they make it easier for me to sleep that night.

I never used to be more energetic at night, but now I certainly am!

I also experience this!

I'm not always drained in the AM but definitely an energizer bunny at night. Lucky my meds make me tired, so I've been sleeping alot better these days...

Don't worry, you're not alone!

I've been like this most of my life, except when I've been extremely manic, when I'd hardly sleep at all. Right now my meds seem to make me sleepy during the day, but even though I'm tired I usually don't get to sleep before two am. This isn't something that worries me though. I'm used to it. I can push through the morning mug when it's important, but I tend to find after I've had a busy few days I'll crash with exhaustion. For example, today I got my son off to school, then went and lay down for "ten minutes", and woke up at quarter to two pm.

That's most of the day gone... I would like to get some help waking in the morning, but I don't want to mess my meds up, since they seem to be working well at the moment.

Im at my best also at nighttime. When I wake up at around 5 am, I feel that I lack sleep and I would think of not going to work and just stay in bed until afternoon.
