So I went to my pdoc on Wednesday and she completely stopped my Seroquel. I was on 400 mg at night along with 200 mg of Trazadone. Now I am on 5 mg of Zyprexa and still on the Trazadone. I am a little scared. I have been dealing with some suicidal thoughts and now that my meds were totally changed I'm afraid of what might happen. I don't go back to see her for another month and there is so much that can happen within that time. I have been hospitalized for a suicide attempt previously. I'm afraid to even go back to the hospital. Afraid that people will think I'm just trying to get attention or something stupid like that. I know that the med change is really going to effect me and I'm not sure what to do. Sorry for the rambling post I'm just scared of myself right now.

If you start to have suicidal thoughts or bad side effects from your med change you should call your doctor right away. Just because you don't have an appointment for a month doesn't mean you can't place an emergency call. Hang in there and stay safe.

Try not to assume that the changes will have a bad outcome. They might be just what you need. I have appts every 2 or 3 months but can go in for an urgent care appt if I need it, as I did so last Thursday. I had 3 changes in my meds so I will have another urgent care appt in three weeks. The next "real" appointment is the end of August.

Do you have a friend or relative who you can call if you feel suicidal? Alternatively, you can call 911 24/7 and let the dispatcher know you are suicidal and need help. Firemen and police officers are trained to help you. They will not judge you and they will not think you are doing it for attention. They are up and ready to help you in those dark hours of the night and will take you to safety.

Gosh, that's a dramatic change... it seems that seroquel is something you should titrate down from gradually, and you should see your doctor or at least someone while doing so.

Don't worry that things will definitely go wrong, but I imagine you'll have some quite bad insomnia for a bit... What reason did the doctor give?

My pdoc said it just wasn't working as good as it should so she switched me to Zyprexa. And the insomnia is really bad. I think I'm getting about 2 hours of sleep per night.

Does anyone have any good tips on how to deal with the insomnia?

Fear of anything is worse than that thing itself. Of course, you can hardly say that about suicide, but the point is that you shouldn't worry too much about things that might happen. I've taking 10 mg of Zyprexa a day and it helps a lot with the suicidal thoughts. It is very likely for it to work for you as well. As for the insomnia, when I can't sleep, I don't sleep. Simple as that. I know, it's not a very good method in the long run,but...

Perhaps this will be the right med combination for you.
