I woke up at 5:30am today and couldn't get back to sleep...and today I only took about an hour nap. Ugh!
It's quarter to 10pm now, and I'm exhausted, and completely ready for bed, but I'm afraid that if I go to bed now, I'll wake up super early again tomorrow. My sleep cycle has just been so wonky this entire week, and I know it's important to keep it regular, so I'm not entirely sure what to do. I guess I'm rambling now...it's been a long day... |

Singdancerunlife, I truly feel for you. Lucky for me right now I have my pdoc permission to take xanax to help me come down mania or when I can't sleep. It has helped but then the next day I get so bumped out and don't want to do anything but at least my mind and body can rest till the next ride. I wonder if you could ask your pdoc about that. I also used to have a pcp who gave me klonopin wafers so that I could use when I could feel I was getting just a little bit out of control or not sleeping right. Not sure if this will help now but at least you may be able to mention it on your next visit. By the way staying on the computer will not help your brain relax and try to sleep. Try doing things that are boring. Hope you get some sleep.

Tuesday night I couldn't take my Ambien because I had ECT scheduled for Wednesday morning. I went to bed at 11pm and at 4am I finally gave up and got out of bed. What a long night waiting to sleep. When I got back from the hospital I wasn't sleepy so I just stayed up. I didn't go to bed until Wednesday night about 10pm. I had been up 32 hours... boy was I tired.
I have ECT again tomorrow so no Ambien tonight. I really hope I sleep at least some. The nights are so long when you can't sleep. |

mokie - I'm actually strange, and I need something going on to be able to sleep. I usually go to sleep with a movie on. If I try to go to bed and it's completely dark and silent, it'll take me hours to fall asleep. If I put a movie or music on, I'm usually out within a half hour.

that's not strange at all. My first husband grew up with 6 brothers and sisters. He could not fall asleep without the TV or radio on. He hated silence. Some of his best naps were on the couch "watching" sports. I can't fall asleep unless it's absolutely silent. I was sort of an only child (my only brother is 15 years older). If there's TV or radio I want to listen to it. Now I live in a highrise near a busy street so I need white noise, like a fan in the summer or humidifier in the winter. When I lived with my first husband I only slept 3 hours a night (I thought it was just normal for me - I had no idea I was bipolar then) so when he went to sleep I'd just get up and shut the TV off.

Well, I slept last night. I was out by about 10:30 and didn't fully wake up this morning until about 10:30, so although it was interrupted a couple times, I got almost 12 hours of sleep. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem like enough right now...I'm still exhausted! =/
