meh, i guess i "suppress "... but it's for my own good and good of people around me. i don't want to make my life about bipolar, so i go with "i am just feeling bit weird today" to acquaintances... (no offense, but i actually hate when people talk about their health all the time... physical or mental. i hate when a company turns into health discussion club...).
sometimes people can tell there is something off about me. by my eyes. not sure if by the way i act... they just think i am emotional. I always say I am Italian born in wrong part of Europe... yeah that's it... I am just emotional. it doesn't have to be all bipolar, does it?

Venus, I agree with you on the aspect of not everything has to be about BP. I do believe everyone has their own personalities too. The OP was just asking do you hide your bp which I believe means your symptoms of the disorder, but yeah, everybody does have their own personalities, quirks and all.

I guess it is cultural... but when i see these "I am not honest to others about my FEELINGS" posts, I go "so what? you are not supposed to wear emotions on sleeve... you are supposed to be proper around people". As I said, i struggle with this concept... but that is how i was brought up. don't cry, squeal or laugh too laugh too loud when there's people around. don't yell at people even if you have reason...

Hey Venushalley,
Ye I get what you are saying. My question is merely about the Bipolar aspect ie mania/depression. I don't care much for the other emotions per say. I am meaning in context regarding your Mental Health team what they should know against what you actually tell them. |

I thought this was a really valid question I never thought much about. For me I did this on the job. I was a very visible clerk having to see everybody on the job and tons of visitors. Most days it was excruciating! Like one of the other members said here, most times when she thought she was being "normal" she was told (and for me I always looked back and KNEW) I was acting "weird". Ditto!
You may have mentioned a twist: isn't it thie same when you're doing this to your pdoc or therapist? Then I go, "Oh, man, who am I foolin'? They're TRAINED to spot this kinda stuff!" That I laugh at myself and it doesn't bother my. however - to emphasize - I believe it's critical to our care to be honest and authentic with our heathcare team no matter what. Over the years, I worked to follow that advice. Why prolong any misery? |
