I also am newly diagnosed. I ended up in the hospital after not sleeping/eating for 5 days. I am confused about the meds though. I was (in the hospital) taking part in the morning and part in the night. Now they have me taking all at night. They were creating horrid nightmares so I have cut back. I still don't have a followup appt with a psychiatrist. Services have been cut and I just had my first appt with my therapist today. She said she will be setting up an appt with psychiatrist but still haven't heard. Btw, I am on 1000 of depokote and 3 mg of risperdal. I am now only taking 1.5 of risperdal b/c it was making me feel way too slowed down and not helping with sleep. I am now taking 750 of depokote. I know I shouldn't be messing with meds however I need to sleep and funtion. I am also taking 20 mg of Doxepin for sleep at night. That is what I was on before this manic episode. I also was on Citalopram which I think led to the mania. Any advice/support. I hate that I have to take meds forever. And I also have PTSD which makes it hard for me to trust these docs. Both are also weight gainers which freaks me out. Thx in advance.

I actually am back on the meds and doing so so so much better. Although I have gained 6 lbs in the last 4 days. However, it may be that i have my appetite back as I was living on cigs, coffee and no sleep. I am amazed at how much more focused I am. I am taking 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. Way better than taking all of it in the pm b/c that was creating nightmares.

Hope everybody is well.

It does take time to get the meds worked out. It can be quite a process and weighs on your emotions. The ups and downs can come and go quickly. I am glad to hear the nightmares have gone and you are more focused!

Thank you. Seriously I don't remember ever feeling this in control. I had the wrong diagnosis for so long. Now I can see why I never finished anything. I had great ideas but they went nowhere. This was the first time it was a bad manic episode.

It is funny b/c I always thought everybody stayed up for days. Not true at all. If you guys only knew how amazed I am about that. I have been doing that since I was 11. I thought it was normal. Most ppl can't go over 24 hrs, lol. I still am shocked at what my normal was.

Welcome to PC.

When you are 1st diagnosed, it does take a while to find the right med cocktail that is right for you.

I am glad that you are back on meds and are focusing better.

If you ever need support, please post here. (((HUGS)))

Well now heres the problem. I was given lorazapam to sleep until the Depalote kicked in. I am back to having nightmares and not sleeping well at all. I feel drugged and get up throughout the night. I am also feeling depressed. I need a good night sleep. I see my pdoc tomorrow and I bet they will just add more meds. I am feeling quite pessimistic about all of it today. I don't like any of this at all.

It really is a frustrating process to go through. You're at a rough stage. I hope you find the right mix for you soon.

Welcome to the forum!!
Are you taking Cymbalta or Effexor by any chance? Both caused me to have nightmares.

No not on cymbalta or other med. met with pdoc still in mixed state. although it is better. Nightmares from Ptsd which set this into the mixed state. Dopamine, Norepenphrine all crisscrossing and going haywire. they are increaseing depakote temporarily and giving me something for nightmares. I am so tired hopefully i sleep tonight and calm down bc this completely sucks.
