Why does my medicine sometimes work perfect, and others not at all? But, it also makes me sick when im in that "good" mood... just so you know the 2 meds im talking about are lithium and risperdal. But I do have to confess (which im afraid to tell my dr) I cant take my risperdal, only 2 times a week with my schedule... My boyfriend works until 12, 1, 2, 3 am and I have to break my sleep to get him...
Any advice you have please give me because I dont see him for a little while and im wondering of its seripus enough to call... |

The medicine will only work if you take it consistently. Risperdal dosages can sometimes be split, reducing the sedating side effects. Definitely call your pdoc and see if this is an option for you.
Also, while I can sympathize with transportation difficulties, disrupting your sleep on such a continual basis is a recipe for disaster. Is there any way at all you could find another solution? Could someone your bf works with take him home a couple of times a week? Do you have a car that he could take a couple of times a week? Please try to find another solution. Sleep is so important for us to stay balanced. I lost sleep a couple of weeks ago because of a cold and it sent me into a mixed episode. But yes, call your pdoc. And be honest with him about the meds.

Well, honestly, he does have friends bring him home sometimes, but when he gets home I get woken up
And I do take my other meds regularly... But lately especially my sion hasn't been sleeping past 6 or 7 am so with my sinus infection I'm stir crazy... I will be seeing my dr soon and will talk to him... Although very nervous about it... But, even the smallest dose of risperdal makes me too tired to take care of my son... Thats y im out of ideas. I know I kind of downed all ur ideas but id like to hear any others... |

See what your pdoc says. He may have another med option that won't make you so sedated. If you're on any meds for your sinus infection, those may also be contributing to the all over medication affect. It's important to be able to be honest with your doctor. I'm sure you're not the first person to tell him you haven't been taking the meds consistently. They know we want to be well, but sometimes the side effects make compliance very difficult. The other day I told my pdoc I wanted to throw my meds out the window, lol! He said "I'm sure you do!" - and then began talking about working with me to possibly reduce or even get me off of them in the next five years. (Me? Off meds?? Yeah, I was a bit shocked, but he was willing to listen to my concerns.)
Hang in there - and let your pdoc do his job. But you need to be open with him for that to happen.

Hi Lost
![]() Medication compliance is a huge issue for probably everyone to be honest . As Dragonfly said ,,Sleep is SO IMPORTANT .. and on top of it all you have a sinus infection and a child to care for. Bless you for all that ... Definatly speak with your pdoc about your medications... There are many many medications out there that are not as sedating .. But you also have to deal with the interrupted sleep your getting also. As for your comments about Pdocs ,, LOL yeah some are just that way . The one I have now didnt impress me the first couple times but hes brillant when it has come to me and trying to help me find a good med combo. I do believe most people need a pdoc and a therapist to get a good handle on bipolar and ride the rollercoaster . Heres to hoping your able to get a real good nites sleep ![]() Good Luck !
