I swear I'm hearing things. Sounds like Morse code tapping in my ear. I have never had this problem before. Makes me think its the meds doing it. Makes me want to stop meds, although, I get nauseous when I think of skipping meds. I'm scared to stop. Anyone else hear things like this??

I can't say that is a complication I have ever experienced. I would suggest calling your doctor to see if this is normal or if there's anything you can do about it. Best of luck to you!

I started hearing things several weeks back. I've been on my meds long enough to know that's not what is causing it. I've heard whispering, what sounds like someone with long nails tapping their fingers on glass, people arguing and, as of last night, someone vomiting. That last one drove me up the wall because I kept thinking I was hearing my kids! That is by far the strangest one yet.

My psych doc put me on Seroquel to help with the hallucinations--both auditory and visual--and to help even out my moods more. I'm just on 25 mg. right now and I can't say as it's done much. I have to increase it each week by 25 mg. and she said I can go as high as 100 mg. If that's not working I have to call her and go in for evaluation.

I hear things when I'm manic. It usually happens when I'm pretty sleep deprived.

I don't hear things but I think I see things that are not there. This happens when I have an increased dosage of Lamictal, am sleep deprived and manic.

morse code huh? at times i have a heightened sense of hearing. Tonight my cell phone charger was making a high pitched beeping noise (not charging the phone and it was barely audible which made it more annoying.) I had to unplug it thinking "are you serious" i'd never noticed that sounds before. For me its electrical sounds, sometimes its the tv, computer, chargers apparently... depends on the frequency

Sleep deprivation (even if only by a few hours in one night) brings on tinnitus for me in a big way. Tinnitus itself is not an hallucination though.
Lack of sleep seems to fry our brain circuitry, and all sorts of commonly unnoticed sounds become distorted and annoying.

Weird... As I was trying to sleep through until the alarm clock this morning (not so successfully) I kept hearing beeping. It was irregular, which was even weirder. Hubby confirms he didn't hear it, but it was a very soft sound. I hope I'm not hearing stuff again. That would be a Bad Sign.

I have exceptionally good hearing, however - I can still hear tones that normally only the 21-&-under crowd can hear. Guess I didn't go to enough rock concerts in my teen years.

Be your own advocate wrt meds. If you can eliminate sleep deprivation, sudden changes in life circumstances, physical trauma and change in routine or diet I would consult your doc. I know when I was taking any anti-psychotic meds I would also begin hearing stuff. Also, Lithum did not work for me at all! I take Lamotrigine.

I have tinnitus, which is not surprising given how many psych meds have tinnitus as a side effect. However, I also hear things -- music. It happens often and it drives me mad. It isn't like having a song you know stuck in your head. What I hear is sometimes sort of just inside my head but at other times it is from another room or outside my window. The music is stuff I'm not really familiar with and nothing that I listen to. It is 1940s dance music and I wasn't born until 1956 so I didn't "absorb" any of these tunes nor did my parents have a record collection. It's just so weird.

Sounds a little like tinnitus. Tinnitus is indeed a side effect of some medications...though hearing anything could also be a sign of mania (or psychosis during depressive; mixed and hypomanic episodes).

I suggest speaking to your health care provider as soon as possible to discuss what you are experiencing. Don't worry...you won't be taken off psychiatric medications, especially if they're helping. The most that will happen is your dosage may be tweaked; you may be prescribed something additional to combat the tinnitus (if that IS what you're experiencing) or they'll slowly begin to change your medication to another in the same class.

I started hearing voices whispering two years ago, i went staight to my doctor and he said bipolar disorder can do that and he gave me Zyprexa to try and that helped after 2 doses it went away. I take Geodon 80 mg 3 times a day, Wellbutrin 300 mg and Paxil 40 mg along with occasinal Ativan. I only take the Zyprexa when the voices start. Its a lot of medication but I know I need it. Don't stop any meds without talking to your doctor

Cariad, When I heard music as if it were in the same room, it was 1940's Jazz. I don't listen to that, yet it was SOOOO clear.

I have heard music a great deal over the years. Sometimes I hear people call my name. Most of the time I can pick out the voice who is saying my name.

I have had tinnitus for as long as I can remember. I have often wondered if that is because I had a nasty concussion when I was hit by a car at age 7. It gets worse if I am under stress or not sleeping. I haven't noticed any medication having an effect on it.

Hi RB, I have mentioned it to my regular psychiatrist and to the one I see while he is away. Both do not believe it has anything to do with BP or meds but have also said that it it is tinnitus they would expect it to happen more frequently, plus they can't explain why I only hear old dance music. So I'm left with no explanation. I'm already taking Zyprexa and have for a long time and have heard the music during that time. This discussion fascinates me.

I've had this for awhile, although not so much anymore. It would be mostly when I tried falling asleep I would hear busy street noises then all of a sudden somebody screams out my name...I would also see dark shadow movements in the corner of my eyes, ALOT. but since I've been on meds I haven't had any probs...

When I hear music it's usually a song I didn't realize was stuck in my head, but one thing I do hear a lot is the sound of incoming texts. Not so much with this phone, but all the time with the other one I would hear a :beep bip beep beep: or something like that, then my phone would beep and I'd have a text message. Weirdest thing ever. My friends could hear it if I put my phone next to the loose video game cables, but I could hear it almost any time. Came in handy when I needed my phone to be off.

Other things I get a lot are phantom phone calls, and what I think is a voice when I wake up. But the only way to describe that is a voice like thunder cus it feels like there's electric shock behind it and I just bolt awake. Not often, but it happens enough.

For the record that was all when I was unmedicated
Thanks for this!
