my positive for the day: focusing externally on others who need some lifting of their spirits... takes me out of my own head space & is very rewarding to try to make a difference for someone else..

I tend to be a hermit and be all depressed because I'm stuck in a crappy little apartment in the city, and I hate cities. I'm a country boy, I own 17 acres on a dirt road up in the hills where I can hunt deer in my own woods (hence the user name) and I miss being there like you wouldn't believe.

Now I make myself get out and walk around the neighborhood behind my apartment every day with decent weather. I make a little ritual of it. I pick which pipe tobacco blend I feel like, select the pipe that seems the best for it today, then light up and take a stroll. I'm not a sociable person, but I make sure I at least say hello to the people I meet. It's not much, but it helps me.

I do similar things when I'm down... I like to go somewhere with a lot of people, the mall maybe. I start walking. I hold my head up, shoulders square, put a ole on my face and walk like I have somewhere I need to be. I greet people as I go by.

I have to say, acting like you're healthy will make you feel better if only for a little while, which is much better than not!

My sister and niece have just left from a 5 day visit. Exhausting but fun. It is nice to see my little niece growing up but she can be a bit of a handful.
It's raining now so I can't go outside for a walk but I might make a trip to the mall and do some shopping and buy a DVD to watch.

I learned that practicing meditation of any form has tremendous benefits. I am going to try and practice it actively now.

I take my dog for walks, around the neighborhood and also at my local park.....He is a great conversation starter, so it helps me be more social and gets me out amoung the living ( LOL ) .....
