I was told today that the state hospital for a 6 weeks would help me work through my issues under 24/7 care. I nearly flipped on her, I walked out of the office. I don't know what to say or do. I mean its not the first time she's mentioned it and my friend just got out and he like normal again. I don't know what do think. This has thrown my world upside down. I'm sure most of you will agree it was a not needed comment, but I dunno. Maybe, Maybe not. She said she can arrange i was like ummmmm... I have to think about it.

Hmm , she recommended a 6 week stay? Fogive me because I'm not in th USA but I don't know exactly what a state hospital is, is a psychiatric hospital?

Maybe this isn't a bad idea, you've been having such a hard time. I can't say because I wasn't in the room. But it sounds like she is trying to find a better way to help you, because maybe so far hasn't been helping enough? You said this helped your friend greatly? If that's the case, maybe it is a good idea.

What made you so angry about this suggestion? Do you know what it is? I know most of us wouldn't be to happy to hear it, on the other hand tho, for a lot of us when we really need help, we get less care than we actually need. And that doesn't always turn out so good.

If this option could help you get back to being you, back to you life, then 6 weeks isn't all that long, even if it seems daunting right now. I'm worried that if you don't get proper care the issues you are facing could drag on much much longer.
Thanks for this!

If you think it will be good for you to have a long stay in a psychiatric hospital (state hospital, yes) then go for it. One suggestion, get a friend or family member to take care of your financial affairs, home, pets while you are gone. Bills still need to be paid, pets need care, home needs to be checked on. It would be hard to arrange it after you are admitted.

Ew! Bad advice so, it isn't advice but, personally I'd drop that doctor. It isnt like you HAVE to make another appointment but, yea...maybe an inpatient program would help? Uh, lol. I can't see it but, I've never been inpatient, I plan ahead for when I'm crazy in an ER being asked to stay, always get out of that mess...good luck!

idk but it sounds like a very long time to stay. usually i would think they'd do an intake at the hospital and then decide how long you should stay. i havent been hospitalized but both my children have, for suicide attempt or risk and it was 2 weeks tops. i have considered it for myself before and sometimes feel like i could use a about a week for some help and healing time. find a new doctor if you don't trust this one. the point of you working together is supposed to be to help you feel better.

Thats usually acute care. Like your local hospital. I've done that nearly 9 times already and acieved nothing but more stress and disapointment. Most of my stays were also around the 2 week mark.

I think it would help. I have my reasons. But I really really really don't know. I mean that would leave a signifigant record, and I don't know if I would rather be ill or have a record. I am unable to decide. Plus its a freedom issue, and it just is a decision I'd rather not make. **** it.
