About two months ago I went off my meds. Now I feel alive. The dead feeling inside is gone. My memory is back. I feel like my old self.

My life was boring so I gave away all my stuff and moved to Italy. I spoke with my psychiatrist on the phone (he also does psychotherapy). He seemed worried but things are fine. It sounded as though he thought I made a mistake. But, how can feeing good be a mistake?

I was a ultra-rapid cycler but now I haven't cycled after going two months without meds.

Has anyone gone off their meds and actually felt better?

I'm off my medication and feel all over the place and better. It's confusing and I'm adjusting.

Moving around the world is rarely a bad thing! It's an experience that you can't get without just going! I've moved to another continent and a country where I didn't speak the language on a whim and without money and boy was I advised otherwise and they were wrong! Generally, people are inclined to stay where they're familiar, it's instincts many have so, they're afraid to do something unpredictable. Doesn't mean your sick!

Doctors don't know everything. In fact, they really don't know that much when you think about it. They're trained in this one worldview where behavior is medicalized and don't question it. If they did, they wouldn't stay in the medical industry. Why do we trust experts? If a doctor says you have bipolar....it means he has a take on things that you need to question!!!!

Then, blah, blah, blah what if your manic? So what! You won't necessarily become depressed.

Enjoy Italy!

What happened when you went off your meds suddenly?

I came off of 320mg of Geodon slowly because when i went off cold turkey I was having horrible hallucinations. The best part of being off of Geodon is that my memory is back. On it I couldn't absorb new information. The information just wouldn't penetrate my skull. It felt like it stopped at my forehead.

My head always feels way more clear when I get off my meds and my memory is 100% better.

Moving to Italy sounds great I'd love to just pack up and leave like that.

Best wishes to you

What exactly is rapid cycling? I've heard it defined in completely different ways, I know its different for everyone. I can't quote exactly what I read- but dsm or some other "official" place it said several episodes (I don't remember the #) swinging back and forth within a year and some people say it happens within their day? and how do you know?

DSM-IV defines rapid cycling as the occurrence of at least 4 major depressive, manic, hypomanic, or mixed episodes during the previous year in a patient with a diagnosis of BP I or BP II.

I quit my meds (lithium, risperdal, prozac) cold turkey 8 1/2 months ago, I was also dead inside at the time... Withdrawl sucked but the worst hallucinations and cold sweats were over after 10 days. Ultradian cycling ensued for about a month after. Fast forward>>>> My cognitive abilities returned, I actually absorb info instead of deflect it, and I don't need a "shopping list" when I'm buying more than 3 items. Ultimate cherry on my unmedicated cake: my bipolar has been MUCH less active... Italy sounds like it turned out to be a great idea, hope you're enjoying it! So glad you're having a good experience!

Well you know, they caution about going off all meds for bipolars, but I did it last week myself in the hospital. Feel much better like everyone has said. Clearer mind...thoughts...more energy. Enjoy Italia! Ciao!

I went off six meds earlier this year. I actually do feel really good without meds. I have tried before suddenly and it wasn't a good experience. This time I did it slowly and made sure I had a lot of other tools and lifestyle changes in place. This has been the longest time that I have been stable.

I hope it keeps going good, enjoy Italy! Sounds very exciting!
