Hello,

I'm new here. I guess I was just looking for support. I was diagnosed with cyclothymia a few years back as well as generalized anxiety disorder. When I cycle, I have mixed episodes with ultra rapid cycling (like it changes from hour to hour or faster).

I'm in the middle of a bad cycle due to my stepmom just having been very ill in the hospital. I can't pull out of it yet. I am on depakote and klonopin...my doctor is considering changing me to a new medication because my anxiety has been up lately and I'm having trouble pulling out this time.

I'm just really frustrated. I'm going in and out of depression. I'm crying and spatting out at my boyfriend. I guess I just wanted to know I'm not alone. I feel so broken sometimes. I know when my moods are starting to go, and sometimes there is nothing I can do to get it under control. Just wait and up the meds, and let them do their job over time.

Can anyone just tell me I'm not alone? I wish medication and therapy and exercise and everything else prevented mood swings entirely, but they don't. I hate having this disease.

Thanks for reading.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum! You are not alone in your struggles. While I don't have cyclothymia, I do have bipolar disorder. I can totally relate to your statement about waiting it out for the meds to work. Sometimes it is so frustrating to exercise, socialize, get proper rest, eat healthy and then experience a mood change. I sometimes feel that I have been dealt a hand that I cannot handle. It is good to be on this site and get support because there are others that can identify and understand. Keep posting!

Welcome! I'm bipolar and I know how irritating it can be waiting for the meds to work. I recently forgot to take my meds for awhile a big NO NO. Taking meds now.

Glad to have you!

You are most definitely not alone. And it sucks having to wait for meds to kick in...or to have to try multiple combos before anything works. But please know you're not alone.

I have cyclothmia as well and went 8 months last year mostly depressed but cycling a lot...racing thoughts and just on edge basically. Once meds were introduced it stopped fast. A new med sounds like a good idea. You aren't alone, we are all here for you if you need ok

Thanks everyone. I finally got some sleep (insomnia is a huge issue for me and causes a lot of mood problems) and I'm doing better today. I appreciate all the responses, it really helps a lot!

I have Cyclothymia as well. My doctor has given me Lunesta to help me sleep. Some times a good night of sleep is just what I need.

Definitely not alone! I know what it's like to feel the mood change and know there's absolutely nothing you can do about it... It's like you hold on so tight, but you still lose grip.

Oh my gosh, yes. I couldn't have described it any better. That's exactly what happens with me. I feel blessed to be of sound enough mind to be able to see/feel it coming, but then it's frustrating because there is absolutely nothing I can do sometimes.

I wish sleeping pills helped. Nothing helps me sleep when my body just refuses. And that's the best way to help my moods. My doctor even tried having me take two sleeping pills once...just felt drunk, and didn't sleep, and couldn't function for 2 days after that!
