Het I've started exercising, thinking it would be good blah blah healthy body healthy mind etc etc. it's kind of making me really racy and hyperactive and means I can't get to sleep for hours after I excercise.

Does it speed anyone else up? I'm referring to a gym workout/run

i'm bp2 (hypomanic but no depression). i've been exercising daily for more than 30 years...i have very fast music on my ipod and work out hard w/that music...or take a spin class....but only work out in the morning and my theory is to burn off some of the mania but not be jazzed up if i exercise at night...have e nough problems sleeping and feel i'd never sleep if i exercised at night.

Exercise is a natural way to increase serotonin levels - therefore making any human being, at times, experience an improvement in mood. It also causes a sense of accomplishment...both are, coincidentally, factors of which can instigate at least a hypomanic episode.

Simply put, I can see why it could possibly trigger mania. But I see that as no cause for concern or reason to stop exercising: it's healthy both physically and mentally.

Personally if I exercise, I enjoy the feeling of physical exhaustion. Mentally my mood improves and I get excited over the difference it will eventually make on the scales.

When I exercise it does elevate my mood if I'm down, but I don't do overly strenuous exercise, and I'm extremely shy and paranoid about being watched and made fun of when I exercise, so I generally try to be alone and hiding when it happens.

I've never felt hypo or manic after exercise itself. It depends on where my thoughts are. If I'm already having racing obsessive thoughts, then I already just start moving (pacing for hours is not uncommon,) so it's hard to say if that makes it worse.

I have enough trouble atm dragging myself out of sleep and keeping myself clean, but I had to answer this from prior experience.

Does it speed me up? Yes.

Does it induce hypomania? Yes.

Does it induce mania? Eventually, yes.

Is it something I need to do in recovery? Yes.

Is it something I need to be careful of overdoing in recovery? Definitely, yes.

Hope that helps...

I have experienced hypo after running long distances (usually start the runs at a content or happy mood). It was pretty consistent for a while.

Exercise pretty consistently makes me feel better, except if I sprain my knee (not fun!) When I can't do anything, if I can summon even the tiniest bit of motivation, I go for a walk and I more likely to be able to get things done afterwards. I would go as far as to say that it does make me hyper, but it's a good hyper. I make it a point not to exercise before bed though, because it keeps me awake.

exercise definitely pumps me up. i was doing jiu jitsu (around 4x a week) and gym 5x or more a week back to back until recently.
i do feel manic (and sometimes feel like the hulk haha) but i feel GOOOOD! but then again most of my manic states feel good. i can't say if it affects my sleep since i sleep so late regularly (current usual bedtime is around 0400-0500) and take trazodone & melatonin for sleep since i've had sleep problems for years.

Exercise relieves my anxiety, especially at a high HR, but I try not to do it in evening lest I cannot fall asleep.

I do not become hypo.

Yes, strenuous exercise makes me full blown manic. Something as simple as riding my bike too fast will do it every time.
