I'm only asking this cuz I'm
Really trying to justify my situation. I look back and think of my mom. She was such a popular woman. Had so many friends and always joking. Such a lovable person. She passed away when I was 19 but now I think back to the days of my mom not getting out of bed somedays She would ask me frequently "do you have days you just want to cry?". And God forbid I did certain things she didn't like---that sweet woman would chase me up The street with a knife. I'd be afraid to go home. Walk around for hours wondering if it was safe to go back home. Bipolar wasn't discussed in the 80s. Was this Bipolar disease and I inherited this??? |

Bipolar is strongly genetic. My mom had it.

My mom was dx-ed about 16 yrs ago and my grandmother had all the symptoms but in our area at that time, ppl just didnt go to dr for mental health issues unless they experienced a "break down." The dif between the 3 of us is I would say my grandmother was BPI, as I am, but mom is BpII.

This has been so hard for me to accept. My dad told me I'm so strong and don't need meds. Listened to him
For years. When he passed away and I couldn't stop crying for weeks, I knew it was beyond grieving. Had to seek help. |

Mean it in a great way. Admirable to be BP and control naturally. But how's it done? Just gets worse with me through the years

My dad was dx with bipolar 1 a few years after I was dx, we were estranged by then tho.
I was on meds for about 7 years or so, and lots of them. I got myself off of all of them, very slowly, and a ton of work. There are quite a few people with bipolar here who are not on meds. And everyone has a different way of going about it. It was a very hard thing for me to do, but I did. I didnt use to think it would even be a possibility. Mine seemed to get worse with age too Passion. But now it's the most managable it has ever been. |

Very genetic.. I inherited from my dad's side. There are people who go it med free, so it can be done. But obviously you'd want to have your ducks in a row, like your knowledge base, your coping techniques, support network. I look up to the people here who are med free, I really would like to be too someday. I plan on it actually, but not yet.

Cannot really answer this question. I know it doesn't run on my mom's side but there is the possibility of it running on my dad's side? Father is unknown. Long story.

My grandmother had all the symptoms of BP1, my mom was a workaholic always with a smile on her face though dadīs an alcholic and emotional abuser... Mom never got DX but I would say she is BP2 and I am BP1.
Itīs genetic and as we speak they are trying to figure out which gene is to blaim. Take care. |

Nobody in my immediate family does, but my Aunt's ex-husband and one of my cousins (their son) has Bipolar, and my cousin currently manages it quite well without medication.

Yep, both sides. My dad had a bp dx. My mom had depression, but in discussions with my t, her behavior was more like bp with the highs and lows. My sister and a brother are both treated for depression, and my son for bp. And this is just my immediate family, but there are cases in my extended family, too.

I hate the person I am without meds. doesn't make anyone unadmirable just because they are working to improve themselves.
