I just had a drs appointment and in the waiting room I heard very faint music. Sounded like it was playing from the ceiling. It wasn't there when I left. I will have to go back in a few and ask if they've got music on low....

It happened to me on I was inpatient. Might be a slight hallucination. Might be reality. In my case, was definitely a slight hallucination, but I have heard that hallucination from sensory "underload" can happen to everyone. In the hospital I was locked up without fresh air for weeks and definitely had a sensory "underload".

Under load? I figure it's just hearing music in the fans. It's very odd. I don't hear it now. Or when I went back in.

"Underload" is my own coinage. The proper term is "sensory deprivation". I do not think it applies to your situation though - you came to the dr's office from the outside.

Is the office in a big office building? Maybe a secretary upstairs was playing her radio too loud while the boss was away? Possible other solution.

Being someone who has autidory hallucinations, I say make a note of this in your mood tracker or whatever you do to keep notes. And, just kind of be alert. Stress and random noises, or other things can sometimes appear to be hallucinations. But, I always make a note. So if it happens again I can start to track a pattern. It's also good to do reality checking, so good to post about it like this.

It's like with diabetes, one really high blood glucose or one low one isn't necessarily an issue. It's looking for a pattern.

When I went back in the music was gone and they said their sound system was broken. I haven't heard any since then.

Sometimes I hear tunes when the wind is blowing or the ac unit is running.

The other day, I was really getting freaked out because I kept hearing Beatles tunes and they were really clear! I looked outside for someone playing a radio, but I couldn't find any music source. As it turns out, I had taken my son's ipod away from him and I didn't notice that it was still playing, so I was hearing the tiny sound of songs from the ear jacks. I love the Beatles, but I was glad to find a logical answer!

I'm guessing it wasn't a big office building then. I always hear the music seeping in from the lobby of the building to my waiting area, which is what I mean maybe it was coming from a totally different office. (Like a radio or streaming music or something.)

In my experience, hallucinations can come and go really fast or last a while. It just depends on something I don't know what. If it was a hallucination then you might not have it again ever. Or you might. Or it might come back as something different. So, just anything I suspect I make a note somewhere that I can look back.

i hear music sometimes, and dings or dongs, amongst other background sounds. never really concerned me too much. i think the brain just tries to make structure out of random strings of sounds. like how when we look at objects and find faces in them.
Like this:
Hearing music in the vents
Many people see a "face" in this satellite image of the Cydonia region on Mars, due to the human ability to perceive faces even in inanimate objects, a phenomenon known as pareidolia
Thanks for this!

Yeah I've seen that face before.

It's a big building but well insulated. You'd have to really be blasting it in which case I would've heard it when I left.

Pdoc called. With this and still having manic thoughts wants me on the double dose for a week. I feel tired and slow yeti mind still thinks like it was before.

This sounds like me. Tired and slow with a mind that won't shut up. Take care, Moose. I'm glad you talked to pdoc again.

Short walk. Sometimes I talk to the neighbor a few doors down but he's not outside- I can hear him inside though. :-/ I like chatting with him. Passes the time.

I really want to sleep. Damn you Zyprexa. I really don't want to take it anymore. Almost wish I hadnt called.

how long does it take zyprexa to work? what if you don't take the extra, then wait and see. can you take it later if needed or is it one of those build up sort of things?

This is too funny. As I started the article, I remembered a conversation with my psych. I'd been hearing a lot more music and voices than usual. She asked if there had been a fan on. I recalled that there probably was at least some of the times. Not to worry, she said, that happens to a lot of people. With a little nervous laugh, I said, "Oh. Ok. Good. Haha, yeah, it's probably just brains trying to interpret random stuff into something recognizable." (I didn't know it was an actual phenomenon with a name! Lol, I was just yammering.) So, cool. It has a name. Today's word of the day for sure. Also interesting that it applies both to sound and sight, because the auditory kind of worried me a bit, whereas the visual I do all.the.time. and it never phased me in the least. Very much enjoy it, even. Looked it up on Wikipedia and it has a nice Leonardo da Vinci quote. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout Leo! Lol.

Thanks for posting the article on MES, Moose. Interesting stuff. The vent thing... maybe some kind of air system motor/sound/whatever that was running one time, but not the other? The manic thing might be going on, and maybe they're linked, but maybe they're not. With it just happening that one time, it's probably nothing to worry about. 'Course, no harm in writing it on your chart if you want.

Hope you're feeling evened out soon and get some good rest.

There wasn't an obvious fan- like you'd have in a home bathroom- but the normal ceiling vents in an office. It was a bit quiet relative to the rest of the place but I didn't hear it when I went back in.

Yeah. I don't know enough about the workings of air systems to know what happens up there but in a big building especially, there's got to be some kind of something moving the air where it needs to go, hopefully without more noise than necessary. (Haha, unlike our bathroom fan designers who seem to think-- Oh, but it is so small -- let's make it noisy so they know it's working(!) Lol.) Anyway, that's also a sort of sound the people that work there would be unlikely to notice, being so much a part of the daily environment as to be.. tuned out, you know?

Just guessing.
Whatever it is, hope your mind can mellow and get in sync up with your body so you can get some nice

Where I work we have continuous air flow. However, you can't hear it at all. It's not even a background noise it's so quiet. I mean, you really have to sit and focus your attention to hear it, and even then it's just barely there. The only time you even realize there was sound is when the power goes out and the whole building makes that sudden sigh into silence (all the computers going off, the air, the light, all the inperceptable hum vanishing...)

I must admit lately I don't feel I need my meds. There is nothing wrong with me. I was okay my whole life until they threw me on meds.
